In this study, we will examine two important issues that we encountered in the debates such as the metaphysics of temporal parts in the context of Sider’s arguments about four-dimensionalism. First one of these issues is the difference between perduring objects and three-dimensional objects; and the second one is that the problem of temporal parts. Likewise, we will try to explain what temporal extention and perdurantism is and also, we will try to expose difference between four-dimensional and three-dimesional object.

Metafizik çalışmaları arasında ‘zaman boyunca özdeşlik sorunu’ oldukça önemli konulardan biri olarak görülür. Özdeşlik, en genel kullanı- mıyla, her bir şeyin kendisiyle olan bağıntısı ya da geri kalan her şeyden ayrı olan anlamında kullanılır. Bu özdeşlik tanımları başta sorunsuz gibi görünse de özellikle çağdaş metafizik çalışmalarında bu konu üzerinde önemli tartışmaların yürütüldüğü görülmektedir. Buna göre, bu tartışmalarda ister özelliklerinden bazıları değişsin ve geri kalanı aynı olsun ister özelliklerinin tamamı değişsin ister hiçbir özelliği değişmeden kalsın herhangi bir şeyin zamanın farklı anlarında nasıl oluyor da bir ve aynı şey olarak kalabiliyor sorusuyla karşılaşırız. Bu yaklaşımlar arasında bir şeyin zaman boyunca kendine özdeş kalmasını sağlayanın töz olduğunu savunanlar ve buna karşıt olarak, özdeşliğin bağıntı yoluyla sağlandığını savunanlar ortaya çıkar. Bu iki görüşün yanında bir de süredurum (persisting) ve dört-boyutçuluk (four-dimensionalism) gibi zaman bağlamında özdeşlik sorununu tartışanlar vardır. Bir de tür ortaklığı üzerinden tümeller bağlamında özdeşlik tartışmasıyla karşılaşırız. Bu yaklaşımlardaki ortak sorun, her şeyin zaman içinde varolmak zorunda olduğu ve bu nedenle zamanın tüm yüklemlerini taşıması gerektiği ön kabulüne dayanır. Dolayısıyla sürekli bir akış ve değişim içinde eğer şeyler kendilerine özdeş kalabiliyorsa bunun nasıl olduğunun açıklanması gerekir.

In contemporary metaphysics of time, especially in the debates about the nature of time and identity over time, there are debates about how things have preserved their identities over time, even if they have changed. In this work, we will examine the question of identity in the context of part-whole opposition when we encounter it in contemporary metaphysical discussions. There are basically two opposing arguments here. In terms of province, if there is change, it is not possible for anything to be the same before and after the change and thus to remain identical to itself. According to the second, in order for change to be possible, it is necessary to assume the existence of something that has already remained the same before and after the change. Despite these two contrasts, however, it seems that identities of things over time cannot be achieved and they are both timeless in terms of parts and whole.

Kuram ile eylem ve düşünme ile yapma kavramlarına yüklenen anlamlar arasında eskiden beri olduğu varsayılan karşıtlığın artık kalıplaştığını söylemek yanlış olmaz. Kuram ile düşünmenin soyut olanla ilgili olduğu ve eylem ile yapmanın da gerçeklikle bağıntılı olduğu kabul edilmiştir. Bu ayrımdan yola çıkılarak, özellikle de ülkemizde, felsefenin kayda değer bir yanının olmadığına ilişkin önyargılar ortaya çıkmıştır ve bunun kaynağında da düşünmenin aslında ‘gerçek bir şey yapmış olmama’ şeklindeki kabul bulunmaktadır. Uygur’a göre, bu çıkarıma neden olanların önemli bir kısmı da felsefecilerdir, çünkü bir düşünme etkinliği olan felsefenin eylemle olan bağı yeteri ölçüde gösterilememiştir. Buna göre, bu yazıda Uygur’un düşünme ile yapma kavramları arasında olması gereken bağı nasıl ortaya koyduğunu gerekçelendirerek ele almaya çalışacağız. Aynı şekilde, kuramın eylemi belli ölçüde içerdiği kanıtlanırsa felsefe sorularının da gerçek olduğu varsayılan gündelik dilin sorularını içerdiği gösterilmiş olacaktır. Son olarak bu çalışmada, Uygur’un felsefe sorularının gerekçeli ve planlı olduğuna, bu nedenle, gerçek anlamda eyleminin planlı olması gerektiğine ilişkin iddiası üzerinde durulacaktır.

This study firstly deals with fundamental problems of time such as reality of time, what time is and how it appears to us in experience in the context of McTaggart and Husserl’s views of time. These two philosophers have investigated the concept of time in different ways. McTaggart explained the concept of time based on his distinction between realty and existence. According to McTaggart, when time is applied to reality, it causes contradiction, and therefore, for him, time is unreal. However, Husserl deals with the concept of time in relation to consciousness. According to Husserl, all experience entails a temporal horizon and temporality of consciousness makes time experience possible. These two approaches allow the development of important debates in contemporary philosophy of time. Problems of objectivity of the present and time experience are some of these debates and this controversy arises between two opposing views which is called presentism and eternalism. Therefore, other aspect of this study is the discussion between presentism and eternalism. While presentism claims that only what is present is real, on the contrary eternalism argues that all that exists equally exists in all stages of time. Thus, in this study, based on McTaggart and Husserl’s views on time, we want to show that both eternalism and presentism could not give a time without contradiction. Beside this, in this study, it is suggested that the problem of time is not only a problem of temporal judgement, but it is also related to consciousness, and in this way it will be claimed that ‘being present’ can be explained in relation to consciousness.

We encounter two contemporary discussions of metaphysics of time known as A- and B-theories. B-theory is opposed to the idea that time flows and according to this theory past, present and future are not immanent features of the events. However, according to the A-theory, time flows and past, present and future are temporal characteristics of events. So, in this study after specify the arguments of these two theories of time, we will discuss that the problem of reduction of those two theories to each other.
