Read moreINTRODUCTION[|]What would you do if given the task of implementing a sustainable agriculture model that is sensitive to nature and the environment and ensures safe food production, but have no authority to do so? If you had to farm to survive, would you produce food separately for your family using no chemicals while employing intensive plant-protective chemicals in your production for others? Would you be willing to buy less fertilizer and fewer crops to protect the soil for future generations? Would you give up on industrial animal husbandry, which sees animals as meat and milk-producing machines, because animals have rights, too? Would you continue intensive agriculture based on single-crop production at the expense of affecting the biodiversity that is vital for agriculture and food? Would you choose a healthier production model instead of mere efficiency when you are constantly indebted to seed companies and dealers? In this article, with the dilemmas that cannot be answered in a single sentence, we will try to create awareness of the 'what is' and 'what ought to be' in agriculture and food ethics. We also aim to discuss the ethical dilemmas faced in agricultural production based on philosophy.[¤]METHODS[|]If complex and multi-factored dilemmas are simplified without being grounded, an easy solution is sought. However, when complex and multi-factored dilemmas are based on the philosophical plane, they can be understood comprehensively. The focus of this article is that solutions to economic and political problems in agricultural and food ethics are not only scientific.[¤]RESULTS[|]Although scientific developments provide various solutions, some solutions not discussed at a philosophical level will always be incomplete.[¤]DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION[|]As long as ethical dilemmas in agricultural production remain undiscussed, man will continue to consume nature and to consume himself while he does so. For the solution of dilemmas faced in agriculture and food ethics; recommended starting point is understand and discuss the intertwined causes and effects instead of identifying and eliminating the individual negative effects.[¤]
