Emma Ruttkamp-Bloem

Emma Ruttkamp-Bloem is a member of the UN SG's AI Advisory Body, and the chair of the UNESCO World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology (COMEST). In South Africa, she is professor and head of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Pretoria and the leader of the Ethics of AI research group at the Centre for AI Research. Her fields of research expertise include ethics of artificial intelligence (ethics of social robotics; the artificial moral agent project; the ethics of autonomous weapon systems; AI and sustainability in Africa; and fair, accountable and transparent machine learning), philosophy of science (scientific realism; the structure of scientific theories; the demarcation problem; scientific progress; scientific truth) and formal logic (mathematical logic, non-monotonic logic, epistemic logic).
