My research concerns (1) the nature of religious attitudes, particularly faith, trust and belief; (2) the role of knowledge in modern democracies; and the intersection of (1) and (2), namely: (3) the role of religious attitudes in modern politics and democracy. This work has been concerned with problematic forms of religion – fundamentalism and extremism, and in particular, their tendency to be formed and sustained in echo-chamber environments.
