High resolution structure and double electron-electron resonance of the zebrafish voltage-dependent anion channel 2 reveal an oligomeric population
    with J. Schredelseker, A. Paz, C. J. López, C. Altenbach, C. S. Leung, M. K. Drexler, J. N. Chen, and W. L. Hubbell
Background: Biochemical characterization of voltage-dependent anion channel 2 is limited due to an inability to obtain functional protein. Results: The crystal structure ofVDAC2suggests a dimer interface that is confirmed by double electron-electron resonance and cross-linking. Conclusion: zfVDAC2 has a fractional dimeric population. Significance: VDAC isoforms are structurally similar, but this study has identified a number of hot spots that require further exploration. © 2014 by The American S…Read more

The Demise of the AMA’s Mission to Improve Public Health
    Perspectives in Biology and Medicine 66 (2): 312-326. 2023.
ABSTRACT:Much has been written about the deplorable state of American health care, but rarely with the wealth of historical and political information packed into Peter Swenson’s Disorder: A History of Reform, Reaction, and Money in American Medicine (2021). In this meticulously researched and comprehensive study of the role of organized medicine, particularly the American Medical Association (AMA) and affiliated state and county medical societies, Swenson provides detailed insight into the AMA’s…Read more
