After spending twenty years in the computer business, I went back to school and got a PhD in history of science from Stanford (with visits to Pitt HPS along the way). For ten years, I taught intellectual history at Stanford, Brown, then Columbia. In 2016–17 I was the annual fellow and am now an affiliated scholar at the Center for Medieval Studies at Fordham University. My primary scholarship concerns evolving conceptions of induction from the ancient world to the early twentieth century but occasionally I do still work on history of science, as in a recent article about temperature.
