I retired from University College London in 2010, following an enjoyable and productive career in biomedical science based largely on complex cellular interactions in the immune response.

Since then my main interest has switched to the problem of defining the cellular biophysical events that correspond to sentience, or conscious experience.

A detailed account of my approach, together with publications and online essays is at https://conscious-experience.net. My views are captured in four recent papers (2020-2021 (one due 12.21)) in Journal of Consciousness Studies, building on my original 2005 paper and my 2006 book.
