    Leibniz, a Friend of Molinism
    Res Philosophica 95 (3): 397-420. 2018.
Leibniz is commonly labeled a foe of Molinism. His rejection of robust libertarian freedom coupled with some explicit passages in which he distances himself from the doctrine of middle knowledge seem to justify this classification. In this paper, I argue that this standard view is not quite correct. I identify the two substantive tenets of Molinism. First, the connection between the conditions for free actions and these free actions is a contingent one: free actions follow contingently from thei…Read more

The “power of the real”, which Zubiri conceptualized in the final period of his philosophy, is “inspired” in the creation concept of the Greek Fathers, according to Zubiri’sexposition of Greek Patristics in “Supernatural Being: God and Deification in Pauline Theology”. In addition, Zubiri makes that concept his own in a course on Christianity, published posthumously. That inspiration can be detected when Zubiri radicalizes his philosophical approach. This implies purifying his philosophy of elem…Read more

Marginalia. La independencia literaria en Hispanoamérica
    Ideas Y Valores 59 (144): 5-27. 2010.

The theory of systems formulated by the sociologist Niklas Luhmann is one of the most notable products theoretical from what has been called post-modernity. His great explanatory capacity makes it very interesting as a model for understanding the social, political and legal reality in the current complex. This work tries to interpret this theory from a structural perspective methodologically, that is, explaining the structure of thought on which rests from a hermeneutics that considers her analo…Read more

The Game Between a Biased Reviewer and His Editor
    with Rosa Rodriguez-Sánchez and J. Fdez-Valdivia
    Science and Engineering Ethics 25 (1): 265-283. 2019.
This paper shows that, for a large range of parameters, the journal editor prefers to delegate the choice to review the manuscript to the biased referee. If the peer review process is informative and the review reports are costly for the reviewers, even biased referees with extreme scientific preferences may choose to become informed about the manuscript’s quality. On the contrary, if the review process is potentially informative but the reviewer reports are not costly for the referees, the bias…Read more

The purpose of the present paper is to demonstrate a series of connections in terms of concepts and subjects between Ockham and Kant’s philosophical models that may provide a comprehensive framework for their respective insights on Law. Our main thesis postulates the existence of a continuum of certain fundamental assumptions derived from Nominalist theology and enlightened rationality that contribute to the essential unity of so-called “modern thought” and how such continuity is projected in th…Read more

A New Look at A Priori Knowledge and Hildebrand’s Discovery of Different Kinds of Unities
    with Rogelio Rovira
    American Catholic Philosophical Quarterly 91 (4): 567-588. 2017.
The main thesis defended in this paper is that Hildebrand’s distinction between what we could call quiddities—or “quasi-essences,” endowed with chaotic and accidental unity—and genuine essences possessing an intrinsically necessary unity, grounds the radical distinction between analytic and synthetic a priori knowledge. This thesis has not been expressly emphasized by Hildebrand himself. In order to prove it, we: relate the three types of unities distinguished by Hildebrand with the three kinds …Read more

    Journal of Business Ethics 38 (4): 339-370. 2002.
To survive and be successful in today's setting of globalisation and complexity, companies are obliged to think in wider strategic terms, developing active and enterprising strategies that include social, political and ecological elements, besides the economic ones. The analysis of the relationship between companies and society is especially interesting when these companies operate in international markets. La concepción de valores está dirigida al desarrollo de la cultura profesional como proceso activo, complejo y contradictorio en el que intervienen diversos factores socializadores. Es un proceso sistemático, pluridimensional, intencional e integrado que…Read more
