Nythamar Fernandes de Oliveira was born in Rio de Janeiro and teaches Ethics and Political Philosophy at the Pontifical Catholic University in Porto Alegre (PUCRS), Brazil. He earned the degree of Doctor of Philosophy from the State University of New York at Stony Brook (1994), with a dissertation "On the Genealogy of Modernity: Kant, Nietzsche, Foucault" (publication by Nova Science, 2003), defended before the committee composed of Professors David B.
