The main issues animating my research to date concern practical reason, action, agency, free will, and motivation, especially as they intersect with questions of moral normativity, moral authority, and moral justification. I often pursue these questions in the context of the history of philosophy, with a focus on Kant, German Idealism, and 19th Century European Philosophy. More recently I have begun to widen this historical scope to include the pre-modern philosophical traditions of South Asia, with a focus on classical Sāṃkhya -Yoga. My books include Fichte’s Moral Philosophy (OUP 2020) and Kant’s Justification of Ethics (OUP 2021).
