The claim of thepaper is that the bias of the singular modelerand the human centered thinking that dominatespractice theory is a barrier to the transformationof practice. The concept modelingreflects a pragmatist way of understanding thisprocess as in the making. The propositiondiscussed in the paper is that a focus onsocio-ecological relations requires a pluralimagination of the combined human and nonhumaninterests. The claim of the paper is thatthis can be facilitated by an understanding ofarchitectural modeling as a process whereseveral agents superimpose projectiveintra-representations on the situation where asolution emerges from the observation of theirshared referents. The theorizing is situated intwo practice cases: a sustainable urban designfor a housing district and an architecturalinnovation project for apartment buildings withsharing. They have been investigated throughanalysis of documents and interviews with keyactors. The latter case also included participatoryethnographic observation. The theorizingin the practice demonstrates how architecturalrepresentations enact user and resource relationsin specific ways that exclude somepossibilities in the situation. It points at thepossibility that a critical theorizing situated inpractice can help practitioners to better understandthe implications of a combined concernfor human and nonhuman interests and howthey become entangled in the specific case.
