I am cartographer, a native of Russia, born in Moscow (1980). My research interests cover GIS mapping, data science, geospatial and marine research.
My technical skills:
Extensive experience in GIS since 2000: ArcGIS, MapInfo, DIVA-GIS; GeoMedia, AutoCAD Map. RS image classification: Erdas Imagine, ILWIS GIS, ENVI GIS, Idrisi GIS. Statistics (R programming, gnuplot, gretl), various kinds of spatial analysis, data processing, modelling, SQL queries.
Strong experience in LaTeX, compilers: TeX Shop, TeX Works, TeX Live, MacTeX.
Bibliography database management in BibLaTeX, BibTeX (.bib, .bbl formats). Work with reference management systems: Mendeley, Zotero.
Well acquainted with GitHub data sharing. Use GIMP to make graphics.
My career pathway:
I gained my BSc in Geography and Cartography from the Lomonosov Moscow State University in 2004 (Summa Cum Laude).
I was awarded the University Gold Medal for the Academic Excellence.
BSc Thesis (2004): 'Ecological Mapping of the Barents and the Pechora Seas';
Term Paper (2002): 'Ecological and Geographical Mapping of the Baltic Sea Region in the Gulf of Finland'.
In 2006 I participated in the ANT/XXIII-4 Antarctic expedition lead by AWI, Germany (research area: Amundsen and Bellingshausen Seas, southern Pacific Ocean).
In 2011 I received a joint MSc degree in GIS and Earth Observation awarded from the University of Southampton (UK) and University of Twente (Netherlands).
MSc Thesis (2011): ‘Seagrass mapping and monitoring along the coasts of Crete, Greece’.
Upon completion my MSc I continuously had short research stays at various European universities. My visits to the University of Vienna, Lapland, Eötvös Loránd, Tartu, Matej Bel, Brussels, NTU and the Ege University, and studies at TU Dresden and Charles University in Prague were interspersed with attending numerous events.
My research concerned GIS/RS based satellite image processing (Landsat TM/ETM+) for land cover change detection. I have also published on environmental monitoring of the Barents Sea. Some of my papers focus on the aspects of education and methods of teaching GIS. My research resulted in over 100 published short papers and communications (posters and presentations) at more than 30 conferences.
I have been awarded research grants by the DAAD, Swiss ESKAS, Erasmus Mundus, ÖAD, CIMO, HSB, ESF, WBI, TÜBİTAK, MOE Taiwan, SAIA and other agencies.
I have also held travel grants for participation at the workshops funded by Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (Netherlands, 2013) and Maison des Sciences de l’Homme et de l‘Environnement Claude Nicolas Ledoux (France, 2014).
My most recent grant is as a CSC/SOA-funded Marine Scholarship for the PhD studies at Ocean University of China. My dissertation work is focused upon understanding variability of factors responsible for the ocean trench formation and comparative analysis of their geomorphic structure. I have been carrying out research on geostatistical analysis of the deep ocean trenches geomorphology and GIS application towards marine geology. In particular I am working on submarine geomorphology of the Mariana Trench. Upcoming work continues investigations of the geology of the Pacific Ocean and the interplay between geomorphic, geological, tectonic and volcanic factors affecting submarine landform formation.
My personality (a little bit about me):
I consider intensive travelling, exploring the world and diverse cultures as a valuable experience of my life: I visited 37 countries and 254 cities/places worldwide, spent 7 years in Europe, 2 years in China. In 2014 I had a Frequent Traveller Silver Status @Miles & More, awarded by Lufthansa. In my free time I enjoy reading and learning languages: English (IELTS-7.5, 2011), Chinese 汉语 (HSK-5: 汉语水平考试, 2017), German (ÖSD-C2, 2006), French (DALF-C1, 2008), Spanish (DELE-B1, 2008), Italian (CILS-B1, 2007), Arabic (the very beginner, learned in Cairo University, 2013). Besides, I have an interest in history, archaeology and music. I like visit theatres, museums, doing shopping and sitting in coffeehouses in the old cities. Above all, I love spending time with my family and sharing my hobbies with them.
