107Distributed Knowability and Fitch’s ParadoxStudia Logica 86 (3): 455-478. 2007.Recently predominant forms of anti-realism claim that all truths are knowable. We argue that in a logical explanation of the notion of knowability more attention should be paid to its epistemic part. Especially very useful in such explanation are notions of group knowledge. In this paper we examine mainly the notion of distributed knowability and show its effectiveness in the case of Fitch’s paradox. Proposed approach raised some philosophical questions to which we try to find responses. We also…Read more

44Logic in cognitive scienceLogic and Logical Philosophy 20 (1-2): 3-5. 2011.According to a brief and very general definition Cognitive Science is an interdisciplinary scientific study of how information is represented and transformed in a human nervous system. “Information”, “representation” and “transformation” are keywords here. Many disciplines bring considerable contribution to Cognitive Science. Logic is one of them. Logic investigates these rules which allow us to recognize valid reasonings and distinguish them from those that fail to fulfill the condition of vali…Read more

Logikę charakt…Read more

7Deontic Relationship in the Context of Jan Woleński’s Metaethical NaturalismStudia Humana 9 (3-4): 120-130. 2020.In this paper, we indicate how Jan Woleński’s non-linguistic concept of the norm allows us to clarify the deontic relationship between sentences and the given normative system. A relationship of this kind constitutes a component of the metalogic of relating deontic logic, which subjects the logical value of the deontic sentence to the logical value of the constituent sentence and its relationship with a given normative system in the accessible possible worlds.

7Faktywność a wolitywność wiedzy w świetle epistemologii Adama GrobleraStudia Philosophica Wratislaviensia 17 (3): 43-72. 2022.If knowledge is factive, it is not voluntary. In the paper, I discuss this relation within the framework of the theory of knowledge proposed by Adam Grobler. It directly questions the factivity of knowledge and indirectly assumes voluntariness. So, in fact, this theory shows how the acceptance of voluntariness leads to the rejection of factivity. I argue that the exact opposite is true by defending the factivity of knowledge. I also show that Grobler’s theory of knowledge is the variation of Lew…Read more

2How Groups Know HowProceedings of the XXIII World Congress of Philosophy 75 187-190. 2018.The paper is devoted to the analysis of the ascriptions of practical knowledge to the groups of agents. The analysis is based on two very general theses: 1) the intellectualist thesis that practical knowledge is a kind of propositional knowledge or objectual knowledge, and 2) the thesis which links an individual knowledge attributions to a group knowledge attributions: If ‘s knows that p’ has the property P, then ‘G knows that p’ has the property P. Subsequently, the three kinds of a group pract…Read more

„Śledzący” kontekstualizm semantyczny, jego źródła i konsekwencjeFilozofia Nauki 1. 2004.Contextualism is an epistemological claim that truth-conditions of knowledge ascribing sentences depend on context in which they are uttered. The discussion concerned with its background and assumptions is predominant in recent epistemology. However, contextualism is known better as the suggested solution for skepticism about the external world. In this paper I present one of the most important contextualist theory which have been proposed in 90's by Keith DeRose. In what follows I outline this …Read more

IntroductionIn Jacek Malinowski & Rafał Palczewski (eds.), Janusz Czelakowski on Logical Consequence, Springer Verlag. pp. 1-6. 2024.This volume concerns the achievements of Janusz Czelakowski in the broadly defined field of algebraic logic. However, instead of the algebraic logic, we decided to use the term of logical consequence operation in the title of the volume. There are several reasons for this. Firstly, the logical consequence operation is a trademark of the Polish School of Logic, while Janusz Czelakowski is undoubtedly a prominent representative of this School. Secondly, the notion of consequence operation is a kin…Read more

Kontrastywizm epistemicznyFilozofia Nauki 17 (4). 2009.According to contrastivism in epistemology - advocated chiefly by Jonathan Schaffer - the knowledge relation is not binary (s knows that p) but ternary (s knows that p rather than q). Thus knowledge ascriptions are contrast-sensitive. The aim of this paper is to portray, investigate and assess the details of this view. In the first three sections I focus mainly on arguments for contrastivism. Section fourth is devoted to the contrastivist solution to the skeptical puzzle. In the last three secti…Read more
