A Study of Bioethical Knowledge and Perceptions in Korea
with Young-Joon Park, Aeree Kim, Seung-Yeon Ha, Young-mee Lee, Bong-Kyung Shin, Hyun-joo Lee, Soojin Park, and Han-Kyeom Kim
    Bioethics 24 (6): 309-322. 2010.
This study assessed the knowledge and perception of human biological materials (HBM) and biorepositories among three study groups in South Korea. The relationship between the knowledge and the perception among different groups was also examined by using factor and regression analyses. In a self‐reporting survey of 440 respondents, the expert group was found more likely to be knowledgeable and positively perceived than the others. Four factors emerged: Sale and Consent, Flexible Use, Self‐Confide…Read more

Evidence of Aberrant Immune Response by Endogenous Double‐Stranded RNAs: Attack from Within
with Yongsuk Ku, Jayoung Ku, and Yoosik Kim
    Bioessays 41 (7): 1900023. 2019.
Many innate immune response proteins recognize foreign nucleic acids from invading pathogens to initiate antiviral signaling. These proteins mostly rely on structural characteristics of the nucleic acids rather than their specific sequences to distinguish self and nonself. One feature utilized by RNA sensors is the extended stretch of double‐stranded RNA (dsRNA) base pairs. However, the criteria for recognizing nonself dsRNAs are rather lenient, and hairpin structure of self‐RNAs can also trigge…Read more
