Incentives for improving research productivity at universities prevail in global academia. However, the rationale, methodology, and impact of such incentives and consequent evaluation regimes are in need of scrutinization. This paper explores the influences of financial and career-related publishing incentive schemes on research cultures. It draws on an analysis of 75 interviews with academics, senior university administrators, and journal editors from China, a country that has seen widespread r…Read more

Structural equation model is a multivariate statistical analysis method. It can not only test some unpredictable abstract ideas, but also design parameters for the causal connection model between independent variables and dependent variables. Among them, the analysis of various latent variables is based on the verification factor analysis technology. The research first collects various relevant data, derives the latent variables and measurement variables, then composes the measurement model, and…Read more

Symmetry-Aware 6D Object Pose Estimation via Multitask Learning
with Hongjia Zhang, Junwen Huang, Qiang Fang, and Yifei Shi
    Complexity 2020 1-7. 2020.
Although 6D object pose estimation has been intensively explored in the past decades, the performance is still not fully satisfactory, especially when it comes to symmetric objects. In this paper, we study the problem of 6D object pose estimation by leveraging the information of object symmetry. To this end, a network is proposed that predicts 6D object pose and object reflectional symmetry as well as the key points simultaneously via a multitask learning scheme. Consequently, the pose estimatio…Read more

We present a one per cent measurement of the cosmic distance scale from the detections of the baryon acoustic oscillations in the clustering of galaxies from the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey, which is part of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey III. Our results come from the Data Release 11 sample, containing nearly one million galaxies and covering approximately 8500 square degrees and the redshift range 0.2 < z < 0.7. We also compare these results with those from the publicly released DR9 …Read more
