I do research in philosophy, with a particular focus on its connections with physics. My main areas of study include the foundations of quantum mechanics, causation, probability, field theory, general relativity, and formal methods in mathematical physics. I am also interested in laws of nature, time, philosophy of mind, history of physics, and logic.
I founded and organize the Harvard Foundations of Physics workshop series (harvardfop.jacobbarandes.com), as well as the New England Workshop on the History and Philosophy of Physics (NEWHPP), which are both co-sponsored by the Harvard Department of Philosophy. I am also a co-organizer of the B…

I founded and organize the Harvard Foundations of Physics workshop series (harvardfop.jacobbarandes.com), as well as the New England Workshop on the History and Philosophy of Physics (NEWHPP), which are both co-sponsored by the Harvard Department of Philosophy. I am also a co-organizer of the Boston Network for History and Philosophy of Physics (BNHPP).
I completed my PhD in the Department of Physics at Harvard University, where I currently serve as Senior Preceptor (comparable to Senior Lecturer, with PI privileges). I am also an Associated Faculty Member with the Department of Philosophy and a Faculty Affiliate with the Harvard Black Hole Initiative.
