With his writings on phenomenology, psychoanalysis, Marxism, ideology, and religion, Paul Ricoeur has single-handedly redefined and revitalized the hermeneutic tradition. _From Text to Action_ is an essential companion to the now classic_ The Conflict of Interpretation_s. Here, Ricoeur continues and extends his project of constructing a general theory of interpretation, positioning his work in relation to its own philosophical background: Hegel, Husserl, Gadamer, and Weber. He also responds to contemporary figures like K.O. Apel and Jürgen Habermas, connecting his own theorization of ideology to their version of ideology critique.

Une science est une langue bien faite, et on doit très humblement reconnaître que les termes dont les juristes se servent constamment manquent de netteté ; les mots : droit, action en justice, pouvoir, faculté, liberté sont constamment employés les uns pour les autres. Ce livre présente un grand effort fait pour y porter remède, et nous n'avons pas redouté le reproche de nous attardé à des querelles lexicales : car le danger est trop grand, dans notre science, que les conflits d'intérêts ne deviennent insolubles si on les double de querelles de mots. Michel Foucault, during the early 1980s, devoted the bulk of his scholarly efforts to a renewed form of genealogical work on themes, venues, practices, and modes of governing the self and others. This work came to be known unfortunately as the “late Foucault”. This essay explores some of the historical elements at play during this deeply (re)formative years. The essay is organized around a prelude that introduces the problem of what mode is appropriate for giving form to thinking. It argues that Foucault engaged in a struggle to redefine the object of thinking. In doing so, he was not only led to pursue a venue in which such thinking could be practiced, but also to an increasingly articulate and acute quest for a form that would constitute a difference between what Foucault diagnosed as an impoverished modern problem space and a future in which things might be different and better.

Während der siebten Ausgabe der documenta (1982), der Kasseler Weltausstellung für zeitgenössische Kunst, treten die Wissensdomänen Kunst und Politik sowohl miteinander als auch mit der Öffentlichkeit in einen Dialog über Nachhaltigkeit: Joseph Beuys plant die Anpflanzung von 7000 neuen Bäumen im Stadtgebiet als künstlerische Aktion, was auf ein breites Spektrum der Resonanz zwischen Akzeptanz und Ablehnung stößt. Der vorliegende Beitrag zeichnet den in Kassel etwa zwischen den Jahren 1981 und 1987 geführten gesellschaftlichen Dialog mithilfe von Textmaterial aus dem documenta archiv nach (darunter Zeitungsartikel, Leser*innenbriefe, Kommunikate von Beuys und seinem Team). Die zu belegende Hypothese ist, dass sich in diesem Austausch kommunikative Muster zeigen, von denen erstens umweltpolitische Diskurse auch gegenwärtig geprägt sind, die aber auch zweitens vor Augen führen können, inwiefern durch die Interaktion zwischen den Domänen Kunst und Politik interdiskursive Möglichkeiten entstehen, umweltpolitisch verantwortliches Handeln nachhaltig in der Gesellschaft zu verankern.
