The general properties of measurements in microphysics are studied and the three types of probabilities that, according to the authors, appear in wave mechanics are set up. Such a distinction, together with the principle of the localization of the corpuscle as was laid down at the very introduction of the theory of the double solution, provides a good grasp of certain phenomena whose explanation according to the usual theory (which makes no use of permanent localization and where the three types of probabilities are intermingled) leads to paradoxical or self-contradictory situations.

This article discusses Reid's critical analysis of Locke's theory of personal identity. Two significant consequences of this analysis are pointed out: a) that if the same consciousness can be transferred from one intelligent being to another, then two or twenty intelligences may be the same person; b) that a man can be, and at the same time not be, the person who practices a given action. Taking these consequences as a starting point, Reid expounds some considerations on the topic.Fazer uma abordagem na qual seja apresentada a análise crítica de Reid acerca da teoria da identidade pessoal de Locke constitui-se como o objetivo principal desse artigo. Tal análise aponta para duas consequências significativas: a) se a mesma consciência pode ser transferida de um ser inteligente para outro, então, dois ou vinte seres inteligentes podem ser a mesma pessoa; b) a de que um homem pode ser e, ao mesmo tempo, não ser a pessoa que praticou uma determinada ação. In declaring that «existence as existence corresponds to being as such, and pertains to its intrinsic significance», Suárez accords to existence a preeminence perhaps not ascribed to it by any Scholastic philosopher. Conceptually distinct, existence and essence are really identical, their identity indicated by the term essentia realis, or «existent essence.» Being is at once unitary in meaning and dyadic; it denotes existence that is both actual and aptitudinal . «Actual» existence is realized extra-mentally, while the «aptitudinal» is existence insofar it is intelligible to the mind, prescinding from but not denying any extra-mental realization. The terminology that Suárez employs is distinctly his own. Gilson, however, reads him Thomistically, and so interprets his essentia realis as a kind of Thomist reified concept affirming the preeminence of essence. More recent commentators, influenced by Heidegger, see in the Suarezian essentia realis no more than cogitabilitas

O presente texto tem como preocupação discutir a concepção de clemência que Sêneca desenvolve no Tratado sobre a clemência. A obra foi destinada a Nero com a finalidade de orientá-lo a utilizar essa virtude em seu exercício de poder. Por meio da prudência política que dela derivaria, o Imperador seria capaz de harmonizar suas ações com a sociedade romana. As reflexões realizadas ao longo do trabalho levam à compreensão de que a clemência, em Sêneca, seria um modelo de sabedoria a ser aplicado pelo príncipe em suas ações políticas. Assumindo esse princípio fundamental de um bom governo e tornando-o um exemplo moral e ético, ele disseminaria essa prática por todos, selando a lealdade do povo para com seu governante. Ao mesmo tempo, de maneira velada, Sêneca procurava desviar Nero de uma tendência tirânica, cujos indícios já estariam se manifestando.
