In der Wissenschaftslehre 1805 entwickelt Fichte aus der Analyse der Existenz als der Wissensform das höchst interessante, und zunächst paradox erscheinende Resultat, daß „[d]ie Wirklichkeit eben nicht wirklich [ist]. Als Nichts läßt sie sich ableiten, u ists.“ Im folgenden werde ich das genannte Resultat in seinem Entstehungszusammenhang im Gang der Wissenschaftslehre 1805 darstellen, um ersichtlich zu machen, inwiefern die empirische Wirklichkeit trotz ihrer empirischen Fülle bzw. Materialität in genetischer bzw. transzendentaler Perspektive gerade als eine Leerheit auftreten muß, damit die Struktur von Vorstellung überhaupt begründet werden kann.

We present an approach to subjective computing for the design of future robots that exhibit more adaptive and flexible behavior in terms of subjective intelligence. Instead of encapsulating subjectivity into higher order states, we show by means of a relational approach how subjective intelligence can be implemented in terms of the reciprocity of autonomous self-referentiality and direct world-coupling. Subjectivity concerns the relational arrangement of an agent’s cognitive space. This theoretical concept is narrowed down to the problem of coaching a reinforcement learning agent by means of binary feedback. Algorithms are presented that implement subjective computing. The relational characteristic of subjectivity is further confirmed by a questionnaire on human perception of robot’s behavior. The results imply that subjective intelligence cannot be externally observed. In sum, we conclude that subjective intelligence in relational terms is fully tractable and therefore implementable in artificial agents.

Es gibt hier ein Spannungsfeld, das es auszuhalten gilt«, so Ulrich Freund in einer Diskussion über das Verhältnis reduktionistischer und holistischer Verfahrensweisen in der Medizin. Während seine Äußerung durchaus von einem gewissen Optimismus geprägt ist, dass die Gegensätze zwischen Reduktionismus und Holismus nicht überbetont werden sollten, verdeckt sie doch ein grundlegendes Problem. Dieses Problem besteht darin, dass es, wenn erst eine Reduktion vollzogen wurde, äußerst schwierig ist, die Ergebnisse der Reduktion wieder zu rekontextualisieren. Die Schwierigkeit besteht darin, die bereichsspezifischen Ergebnisse in ihrer Bedeutung für den umfassenden Kontext, aus dem sie gewonnen wurden, zu interpretieren.

Sports physicians are continuously confronted with new biotechnological innovations. This applies not only to doping in sports, but to all kinds of so-called enhancement methods. One fundamental problem regarding the sports physician's self-image consists in a blurred distinction between therapeutic treatment and non-therapeutic performance enhancement. After a brief inventory of the sports physician's work environment I reject as insufficient the attempts to resolve the conflict of the sports physician by making it a classificatory problem. Followed by a critical assessment of some ideas from the US President's Council on Bioethics, the formulation of ethical codes and attempts regarding a moral topography, it is argued that the sports physician's conflict cannot be resolved by the distinction between therapy and enhancement. Instead, we also have to consider the possibility that the therapy-based paradigm of medicine cannot do justice to the challenges of the continuously increasing technical manipulability of the human body and even our cognitive functions as well. At the same time we should not adhere to transhumanist ideas, because non-therapeutic interventions require clear criteria. Based on assistive technologies an alternative framework can be sketched that allows for the integration of therapeutic and non-therapeutic purposes. After a thorough definition of standards and criteria, the role of the sports physician might be defined as that of an assistant for enhancement. Yet the process of defining such an alternative framework is a societal and political task that cannot be accomplished by the sports physicians themselves. Until these questions are answered sports physicians continue to find themselves in a structural dilemma that they partially can come to terms with through personal integrity.
