What are the consequences of globalization for the structure of political conflicts in Western Europe? How are political conflicts organized and articulated in the twenty-first century? And how does the transformation of territorial boundaries affect the scope and content of political conflicts? This book sets out to answer these questions by analyzing the results of a study of national and European electoral campaigns, protest events and public debates in six West European countries. While the mobilization of the losers in the processes of globalization by new right populist parties is seen to be the driving force of the restructuring of West European politics, the book goes beyond party politics. It attempts to show how the cleavage coalitions that are shaping up under the impact of globalization extend to state actors, interest groups and social movement organizations, and how the new conflicts are framed by the various actors involved.

Visual representations have often played a crucial role in imagining future urban forms. In the aftermath of the Second World War, a noteworthy new genre of urban plan was published in Britain, most deploying seductively optimistic illustrations of ways forward not only for the reconstruction of bomb-damaged towns and cities but also for places left largely undamaged. In the aftermath of the Second World War, a noteworthy new genre of urban plan was published in Britain, most deploying seductively optimistic illustrations of ways forward not only for the reconstruction of bomb-damaged towns and cities but also for places left largely undamaged. This paper assesses the contribution of visual elements in this,process with a detailed case study of the maps, statistical charts, architectural drawings and photographs enrolled into the 1945 City of Manchester Plan. The cultural production of these visual representations is evaluated. Our analysis interprets the form, symbology and active work of different imagery in the process of reimagining Manchester, but also assesses the role of these images as markers of a particular moment in the cultural economy of the city. This analysis is carried out in relation to the ethos of the Plan as a whole.

En este trabajo se presentan nuevas estrategias y metodologías de enseñanza y aprendizaje, y tareas de los estudiantes implementadas en asignaturas relacionadas con la Geología de la E.T.S.I. Minas de Madrid. El principal objetivo es acercar los aspectos geológicos de la Naturaleza (Geología) a los estudiantes mediante el empleo de nuevas tecnologías, empleando técnicas individuales y grupales. Se ha observado una mayor motivación y adquisición de conocimientos geológicos por parte del alumnado, que ha llevado aparejado una mejora en las calificaciones.

En el presente trabajo se pretende poner de manifiesto como el enfoque de la regulación de flujos migratorios basado en la seguridad no resuelve los problemas que subyacen a la inmigración, especialmente la irregular, ni siquiera a los relativos a la seguridad. Para ello se analizan los resultados del Sistema Integral de Vigilancia del Estrecho (SIVE), un complejo dispositivo de control de la navegación instalado en el estrecho de Gibraltar. Frente a ese modelo, se propone otro más «realista» basado en el valor de la solidaridad y que permitiría justificar nuevos derechos. Estos derechos atajarían las causas reales de la inmigración, especialmente en el caso de la inmigración irregular, y la inseguridad internacional.
