Tématem článku je vztah mezi poznáním a jednáním v Kantově kritické filozofii. Přestože v současné, postmoderně zabarvené, filozofické diskusi stojí Kantovo myšlení spíše v nemilosti, domnívám se, že způsob, jímž Kant včleňuje jak teoretickou, tak praktickou filozofii do rámce jednotné systematické úvahy, může být ještě i dnes pokládán za inspirativní; Kant nám totiž pomáhá vidět vzájemnou souvislost, která lidské poznání a jednání tak hluboce spojuje. Ve svém článku se pokouším rekonstruovat hlavní rysy Kantova pojetí vztahu mezi poznáním a jednáním, přičemž se zaměřuji především na jeho myšlenku praxe jako posledního účelu veškerého teoretického usilování. Smysl této myšlenky je nicméně třeba ozřejmit nejen vzhledem k praxi, jež je podrobena morální reflexi, nýbrž rovněž se zřetelem ke každému lidskému jednání, nakolik je vedeno prakticky orientovanou racionální úvahou. Zde leží jádro mé studie. Na základě analýzy Kantových filozofických pojmů zastávám tezi, že je to právě lidská praxe v celém svém rozsahu, již lze pokládat za onen poslední účel poznání. Podle Kanta tvoří totiž teorie nutnou podmínku možnosti jednání vůbec. Nakolik je tedy praktické používání rozumu tím, co nás bez přestání provází na naší cestě životem, můžeme praxi považovat za všudypřítomný účel našeho poznání. To podle předkládané interpretace platí i pro vědecké vědění, které je zdánlivě rozvíjeno jen pro poznání samo. Poznání, které by bylo zcela zbaveno vztahu k praxi, by již více nepatřilo k lidskému světu.

Tis paper explores the emergence of the notion of sexuality in late-nineteenth-century medicine by analysing various writings of Paolo Mantegazza such as Fisiologia dell'amore (1873), Elementi di igiene (1875), and Gli amori degli uomini (1885). With this aim in mind, this study discusses first Mantegazza's broader project on the physiology of emotions in order to explain in the second part the role of his contribution to the idea of love as the foundation of sexual medicine. Tus, love is an affection that loses its religious connotation in order to be studied like the other forces of nature according to Charles Darwin's theory of natural selection. Furthermore, Mantegazza's concept of love was not exclusively focused on the anatomical structure of internal and external genital organs, what we understood as sex, but it also included the psychological dimension of the individual,and thus it was understood as a matter of choice and taste, i.e. as sexuality. In this way, Mantegazza's scientific research reveals the shiſt from the old category of love to the emergent concept of sexuality, which transformed the sexual behaviour into an object under the administration and management of medical discourse. Finally, this article shows how love in the time of Darwinism opened the way to the modern category of sexuality as a singular experience considered to be the most important expression of our personality in contemporary society.

The autosomal recessive genetic disorder, Nijmegen Breakage Syndrome, is characterised by an excessively high risk for the development of lymphatic tumours and an extreme sensitivity towards ionising radiation. The most likely explanation for these characteristics, a deficiency in the repair of DNA lesions, has been greatly substantiated by the recent cloning of the gene mutated in Nijmegen Breakage Syndrome patients and the analysis of its protein product, nibrin. The direct involvement of this protein in the processing of DNA double strand breaks caused by ionising radiation and those also necessary for normal DNA metabolism can be correlated with many of the cellular and clinical aspects of the disease, including the cancer predisposition of patients and their heterozygous relatives.
