A question that I ask myself - and there is no doubt that someone else is asking it as well - whenever I see confusion between the meanings of the writers or the interlocutors, which is: What is the problem in our intellectual life? And every time the answer comes to me: The reason is the ambiguity of ideas or concepts at times, or their distortion at other times. In this paper, an attempt is made to shed light on this answer. سؤال أطرحه على نفسي - ولا شك في أن غيري يطرحه كذلك - كلما رأيت خلطاً بين المعاني عند الكتاب أو المتحاورين، وهو: ما العلة في حياتنا الفكرية؟ وفي كل مرة يأتيني الجواب: العلة هي غموض الأفكار أو المفاهيم تارة، أو تحريفها تارة أخرى. وفي هذا البحث محاولة لإلقاء أضواء شارحة على هذا الجواب.

In this book, John Searle brings concepts such as reality, truth, consciousness, and society from their abstract perch down to the world we all live in. He takes readers through the conceptual problems associate with basic metaphysics, the biology of the mind, the structure of consciousness, the paradox of intentionality, the nature of language and the structure of the social universe. Condemning the belief that our world is dependent on our perception of it, Searle stresses that there is a real world, and discusses the ways in which philosophy can help us deal with it. In short, he takes questions apart, analyzes them and then places them together to present a "total philosophy". In Mind, Language and Society, Searle teaches us how to practice philosophy in the real world. This book discusses two of the oldest and hardest problems in both science and philosophy: What is matter?, and What is mind? A reason for tackling both problems in a single book is that two of the most influential views in modern philosophy are that the universe is mental (idealism), and that everything real is material (materialism). Most of the thinkers who espouse a materialist view of mind have obsolete ideas about matter, whereas those who claim that science supports idealism have not explained how the universe could have existed before humans emerged. Besides, both groups tend to ignore the other levels of existence—chemical, biological, social, and technological. Philosophy of Language, introduces students to the main issues and theories in twenty-first-century philosophy of language, focusing specifically on linguistic phenomena. Author Salah Ismail divided the book into seven chapters. Ch. I, Philosophy of language: Defining term and Indication of trends. Ch.2, Empirical theory in language learning (Quine). Ch.3, Mental theory in language learning and its knowledge (Chomsky). Ch.4, Theories of meaning, surveys the competing theories of linguistic meaning and compares their various advantages and liabilities; theory of ideas, theory of verification, use theory. Ch.5, Theory of communication- intention. Ch.6, Pragmatics and rules of conversation. The primary function that philosophy has to perform is analysis of meanings. Contemporary philosophy is a story of the idea of meaning, in the words of Gilbert Ryle. The study of meaning in our time takes several ways. Two ways come in the forefront. The first relates to the formal theories proposed by Frege, earlier Wittgenstein, Quine, Chomsky and Dummmett. The second relates to the theories of use suggested by the later Wittgenstein, Austin, Ryle, Strawson, Grice and Searle. Formal theories are concerned with the formal structure of languages, and the interrelationships between sentences, while the use theories emphasize the role of speakers in determining and understanding the meaning. This article aims to discuss Bunge's critique of Popper's falsifiabilism as a criterion for distinguishing science from pseudoscience. First, it provides a historical background to the distinction of science; secondly, it explore Duhem-Quine thesis as an early objection to falsifiability, and thirdly, it discusses Bunge's criticism of falsifiability as all-around false — logically, methodologically, psychologically, and historically; and finally, it provides the criteria of scientificity from Bunge's point of view. في الوقت الذي يتسابق فيه العلماء من أجل الكشف عن علاج لفيروس كورونا (كوفيد-19)، تطل علينا وسائل إعلامية لتقدم بعض الوصفات بوصفها علاجًا مثل الشلولو (ملوخية جافة مع الثوم والليمون والشطة)، والفول، ونحو ذلك، ومهمة فلاسفة العلم هي إعادة النظر من حين إلى آخر في ما يميز العلم من اللاعلم والعلم الزائف. ولعلّ أقل فائدة للفلسفة العلمية هي حمايتنا من هذا من الخداع الفكري. تدور هذه المقالة على ثلاث خطوات، تقدم الأولى خلفية تاريخية لمشكلة تمييز العلم، وتعرض الثانية حلّ بوبر لهذه المشكلة، واعتراض نزعة الكلية عليه، وتعالج الثالثة نقد بونجي لحل بوبر، وتصوره الخاص لمعايير العلم.

A utopia is an ideal society that does not exist, which the author conceives better than the society in which he lives. A predilection for it is a social dream driven by a narrowing of reality and a desire for a better way of life. All forms of philosophical, social, scientific, religious and literary utopia raise questions such as: Can the way we live be improved? What are the faults of the society or the world in which we live? What is the best way to lead a better life? This article aims to address the concept of a utopia in an analytical way, and discusses the most prominent images of utopias such as Plato's Republic, Al-Farabi's Utopia, More's Utopia, Bacon's The New Atlantis, Skinner's Walden Two. It shows that utopia is the mirror of human hope. People see in it themselves and love what they love and hate from it what they hate. Their love drives them to seek perfection, and their hatred drives them to seek reform. المدينة الفاضلة (اليوتوبيا) هي مجتمع مثالي لا وجود له، يتصوره المؤلف على نحو أفضل من المجتمع الذي يعيش فيه. والميل إليها هو حلم اجتماعي يدفعه ضيق بالواقع ورغبة في طريقة أفضل للحياة. وتطرح كل صور اليوتوبيا الفلسفية، والاجتماعية، والعلمية، والدينية، والأدبية، أسئلة من قبيل: هل يمكن تحسين الطريقة التي نحيا بها؟ وما عيوب المجتمع أو العالم الذي نعيش فيه؟ وما الطريقة المثلى لحياة أفضل من التي نحياها؟ ويهدف هذا المقال إلى تناول مفهوم المدينة الفاضلة بطريقة تحليلية، ويناقش أبرز صور المدن الفاضلة مثل الجمهورية (أفلاطون)، والمدينة الفاضلة (الفارابي)، ويوتوبيا (توماس مور)، وأطلنطس الجديدة (فرنسيس بيكون)، ووالدين تو (سكنر). ويبين أن اليوتوبيا هي مرآة الأمل البشري. يرى فيها الناس أنفسهم فيحبون منها ما يحبون ويبغضون منها ما يبغضون. يدفعهم حبهم إلى التماس التمام، ويدفعهم بغضهم إلى التماس الاصلاح

Analytic philosophy is a philosophical tradition dominating Anglo-American philosophy, which emerged with clear features at the beginning of the twentieth century, and had its roots in the nineteenth century and before, and is still strong until now. It in essence is an interest in analysis, language, science, logic, and a systematic rather than a historical approach to philosophical problems. This article aims to understand the concepts of analysis and the analytical method, explain the origins of analytic philosophy, and its development into various movements, and reveal some of its contributions to the philosophy of language, logic, the philosophy of science, the philosophy of mind, and moral and political philosophy. I will rely on analytic method in some of its forms.

Naturalism in philosophy has a long time and rich heritage. In the second half of twentieth century, there have been a number of philosophers who called for naturalizing epistemology. In recent years the movement to naturalize epistemology has become increasingly popular. The interest in naturalistic epistemology traces to W.V.Quine’s paper "Epistemology Naturalized" (1969). In this paper, Quine argued for a new approach to epistemological questions, and he made argument for transforming epistemology into a new discipline by making it a part of natural science. According to Quine, Descartes’s view of epistemology as first philosophy was doomed to failure, because it was pursued outside science. Epistemology, as traditionally practiced, is a normative enterprise. It seeks the standards which might be used to justify our beliefs and judgments. Traditional rationalists and empiricists do agree that search of these standards within natural science would be illegitimate; because the object of traditional epistemology is to provide a ground for natural science. But naturalists reject the autonomy of epistemology, and seek continuity between epistemology and natural science. Quine says that I see philosophy not as a priori groundwork for science, but as continuous with science. This paper seeks to achieve the following aims: (1) Determining the different concepts which fall under the heading of naturalistic epistemology. (2) Clarify the arguments provided by naturalistic epistemologists to confirm their theories. (3) Discussing the most important criticisms advanced by philosophers against naturalistic epistemology. (4) Stating our attitude toward naturalistic epistemology through defending the "moderate epistemic naturalism". Since strong naturalistic epistemology, in affirmative usage, amounts to scientism, this paper seeks to answer a general question about the legitimacy of scientism.

Moreover, the author addresses the concepts of knowledge through linguistic and logical analysis. He defends a vision of philosophy as a conceptual clarification as well as a natural tendency. دراسة فى فلسفة العقل عند جون سيرل، مع التركيز على مفهوم القصدية John Searle is one of the most important and influential living philosophers of the last thirty years. The core concept of his philosophy is intentionality. Intentionality is the mind's capacity to direct itself at things or represent them. How does the mind work? How can the human mind represent the external world? Representation is the primary function of our minds. When we believe, think, plan, hope, desire, conceive, we are representing the world, and this makes our mental states intentional states. Do all mental states exhibit intentionality? Do only mental states exhibit intentionality? What is the structure of intentional states? What is the intentionality of perception and action? What is the relation between intentionality and consciousness? What is the relation between the intentionality of mind and intentionality of language? In this monograph, I try to answer these questions and others, and I will reconstruct Searle’s theory of intentionality and evaluate it in the light of the history of intentionality, especially Brentano’s thesis, and recent developments in the philosophy of mind.

الفيلسوف الذي أحدثك عنه في هذا الكتاب هو واحد من أعظم الفلاسفة أثرًا في الفكر المعاصر؛ إنَّه الأمريكي ريتشارد رورتي (1931-2007). وأخصُّ ما تمتاز به فلسفة رورتي هو هذا التحوُّل الذي أحدثه في الفلسفة المعاصرة عامة، والبراجماتية خاصة. وأبسط مظاهر هذا التحوُّل أنَّه ثار على التصوُّر التقليدي للفلسفة باعتبارها تلقِّي الأسئلة وتلتمس لها الإجابات الخالدة، وبذلك تكون أساسية لبقية الثقافة. وانظر إليه في ثورته الفلسفية، فإذا هو يُنكر أنَّ العقل مرآة الطبيعة، وأنَّ المعرفة دقة التمثيلات في مرآة العقل، وأنَّ الفلسفة نظرية عامة في التمثيل المعرفي، وإذا هو يطرح السؤال: ما عسى أن تكون الفلسفة؟ وإذا هو يُجيب: إنَّها محادثة تنويرية أو نوع من النقد الثقافى. وما أعرف أن أحدا قرأ الفلسفة الغربية منذ ديكارت قراءة نقدية مثلما فرأها رورتى، وما أعرف أن أحدا خلص الفلسفة المعاصرة الناطقة بالإنجليزية من تزمتها الضيق مثلما فعل رورتى. ولست أعرف فيلسوفا حاول التوفيق بين الفلسفة الأوروبية من جهة، والبراجماتية والتحليلية من جهة أخرى ، كما حاول رورتى.
