Historians of Latin American philosophy have paid relatively little attention to the development of philosophical analysis in Latin America. There are two reasons for this neglect: First, they have been primarily concerned with the forma tive period of philosophical development, in particular with the so called "founders" of La ti n American philosophy. And second. philosophical analysis did not become a noticeable philosophical trend in Latin America until recent years. True. a nunber of Latin American philosophers took notice of Moore. Russell. the members of the Vienna Circle and other important figures in the analytic movement qui te early. But these were isolated instances that lacked the sustained effort and broad base indispensible to make a serious impact in the development of Latin American philosophy. That has changed now. There are not only good numbers of philosophers who work within the analytic tradition, but also some journals and institutes dedicated to the analytic mode of philosophizing. It is. therefore. most appropriate to publish a collection of articles which would introduce the reader of philosophy to the most representative analytic material produced so far in Latin America. Indeed. it is not only appropriate. but also necessary. since most of the published analytic literature to date is scattered in various journals, sometimes of difficult access. Moreover, not all that has been published is representative of the best already produced and of the potential that the movement has in Latin America.

Starting with its tenth (2000) volume, _Philosophical Issues_ will be a yearly one-volume supplement to _Noûs._ Each year it will be devoted to invited papers and book symposia in a specific area of philosophy. The yearly has attained distinction through the uniformly high quality of its previous nine volumes and the fact that its authors include many of the most distinguished philosophers active today. The topic of Volume 10 is controversies at the interface of epistemology with philosophy of language and philosophy of mind, including discussion of the sorites paradox and linguistic contextualism on attributions of knowledge.

100 años después de la primera edición de la Defensa de la hispanidad de Ramiro de Maeztu, pocos son los que no asocian la obra con el franquismo más rancio. Sin embargo, cuando uno tropieza sin prejuicios con la obra, casi por casualidad, puede encontrar en ella un llamamiento a algo más profundo que los anhelos de un mundo decimonónico y oscuro, donde la ley de Dios lo dirige todo inflexiblemente. Sin poder negar el rigorismo católico del vitoriano, encontramos en sus páginas un encuentro íntimo con las raíces de España y la Hispanidad, de una España y una Hispanidad que, según el autor, han perdido el norte, análisis que podemos compartir en mayor o menor medida según los argumentos de Maeztu, que iremos desgranando a lo largo del artículo. Posteriormente concluiremos que, aunque parte de su discurso ha de ser tomado con cautela, buena parte de la obra sigue teniendo vigencia y ha de ser tenido en cuenta en cualquier intento de regeneración ideológica de nuestro país o de la Hispanidad en conjunto.

La llegada de inteligencias artificiales ―que acompañen a las personas vulnerables e incluso sean nuestros amigos y amantes, por ejemplo― es cada vez menos un sueño lejano, por lo que muchas de estas cuestiones éticas han de plantearse en un horizonte temporal a medio plazo, entre los problemas actuales y la hipotética llegada de la inteligencia artificial general. Plantearse las cuestiones correctas es una labor muy complicada en general, y más si cabe en el campo de la inteligencia artificial, lleno de declaraciones y anuncios rimbombantes por parte de expertos, conspiraciones y miedos basados en las historias de ciencia ficción y un temor bien fundado a la luz del creciente número de escándalos causados por las malas prácticas de los proveedores de servicios a la hora de gestionar los datos que extraen de nuestra actividad en la red. La intención del presente trabajo es exponer una serie de problemas cuyo tratamiento normalmente queda en un segundo plano en la bibliografía a favor de otros debates, con el fin de contribuir a una visión más informada y crítica de la tecnología que parece que está por llegar para combatir el escepticismo basado en creencias de ciencia ficción y despertar un escepticismo bien informado.

Hockenhull y Leavitt Cohn introducen en su análisis de la escena tecnológica danesa el concepto de «aire caliente» para describir las medias verdades y exageraciones que las compañías utilizan para atraer la atención pública y la inversión. La ciencia ficción y los anuncios de las empresas del sector tecnológico describen con frecuencia a los robots del futuro como seres inteligentes y con capacidad de sentir y, por tanto, con la capacidad de sustituir a las personas como amantes y compañeros de vida. El presente artículo tendrá como objetivo analizar estas expectativas presentes en los imaginarios sociotécnicos de la inteligencia artificial con la intención de descubrir sus problemas y facilitar un juicio menos inflado de «aire caliente».
