I am a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Leeds. I work on a variety of issues in moral, political, and legal philosophy: self-defence and war, justice and fairness, liberty, consequentialism and non-consequentialism, life and death matters in reproductive ethics, liberalism and free speech, and bits and pieces of metaethics and practical reason. I am the author of a monograph on aspects of luck in moral and political philosophy, Strokes of Luck (OUP, 2021), and I am currently working on a monograph on deontology, defence theory, and war, whose working title is Defensive Manoeuvres. I'm aiming to have finished it by the end of 2024.
