Jennifer Kiefer Fenton

I am a part-time Adjunct Professor in Professional Ethics at Marquette University. Presently, I teach Professional Ethics courses in the Public Service graduate program, hosted by the Department of Political Science, and the Healthcare Technologies Management graduate program, hosted by the Department of Biomedical Engineering. My research specializations are social and political philosophy and feminist pragmatism as these literatures intersect with topics and problems in participatory democratic theory and in applied ethics. I am particularly interested in drawing on design thinking in the natural sciences and engineering, to develop a pragmatist feminist conception of public deliberation. As I develop design thinking and implement it in the classroom, it is critically reflective, fallibilist, experimental, open-ended, project- rather than ideologically- motivated, and systems-oriented. Designing good solutions requires inclusion, cooperation, empathetic listening, and epistemic humility. I also think that eating with one another in the classroom has important pedagogical benefits, and so I frequently bring food to class to share with my students!
