I research and write in the areas of 19th and 20th century Continental Philosophy (especially Friedrich Nietzsche), nihilism (especially affective nihilism), personal transformation, self-knowledge, and environmental philosophy. In my research, I offer a particular account of self-transformation as a solution to the problem of nihilism in Nietzsche. This account of personal transformation assigns a unique and significant role to the practice of receptivity, especially receptivity to potentially transformative stimuli external to the self.
