Martin O'Neill

I am a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy at the University of York, where I have been since 2018. From 2010-2018 I was based in the Department of Politics, also at the University of York. Before coming to York, I was Hallsworth Research Fellow in Political Economy at the University of Manchester (2007-09) and, before that, Research Fellow in Philosophy & Politics at St John's College, Cambridge (2004-07). I have also been a visiting Hoover Fellow in Economic and Social Ethics at the Chaire Hoover d'éthique économique et sociale at the Université catholique de Louvain. I did my PhD in the Department of Philosophy at Harvard University, under the supervision of T. M. Scanlon and Derek Parfit, and, before that, did a B.Phil in Philosophy and a BA in PPE, both at Balliol College, Oxford.

I'm interested social justice, liberty, equality, and a variety of issues at the intersection of political philosophy and public policy (including taxation, property, insurance, climate change, health, work, the welfare state, corporate governance, and labour unions).
