Max’s research focuses primarily on the development of a philosophy of life and its relation to issues in aesthetics, politics, ethics, psychoanalysis, religion, and environmental studies. His approach to these matters is informed by phenomenology, psychoanalysis, affect theory, critical theory, post-structuralism, psychology, and neuroscience.

In 2024, Max was the recipient of the University Teaching Excellence Award at UPEI. He has served as the Editorial Assistant of the Journal of Aesthetics and Phenomenology and is completing his first book.
