I did my PhD at Georgetown University, where my dissertation, 'Subordinating Speech and the Construction of Social Hierarchies,' was supervised by Quill Kukla, Alisa Carse, Madison Powers, and Lynne Tirrell. My main research is in social philosophy of language, and I focus on online speech and online hate in particular. I use the tools of philosophy of language, social epistemology, and applied ethics to address the pressing questions of online harassment, content moderation, and the emerging norms of social media. This shift has also led me to work on topics in AI ethics more broadly, especially issues of automation, work, and surveillance.
