Having recently received a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Birmingham, I am now a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Iceland, funded through the RannĂs project "Understanding Philosophical Progress" (https://philosophicalprogresslab.wordpress.com/project/). My PhD research primarily concerns the nature of explanation and its role in facilitating both scientific and philosophical progress. More recently, I have become interested in perceptions of catastrophic risk and the extent to which the possibility of catastophe justifies cutting epistemic corners in the pursuit of scientific progress.
