My research to date has been mainly focused on exploring issues in applied ethics and moral and political philosophy that arise as a result of the existence of various forms of partiality. In particular, I am currently working on developing a novel theory of partiality and the moral foundations of associative duties. This project has applications in various theoretical debates (e.g. holism about value and value theory more generally) as well as practical debates (e.g. partiality in personal relationships, partiality towards religious communities, the ethics of patriotism and nationalism, the existence of associative political duties, and related issues of distributive justice). In addition, my areas of expertise encompass the responsibilities of citizenship, the philosophy and politics of human rights, theories of distributive justice, democratic theory, and various topics pertaining to the ethics of poverty, ecology and war.
I am currently a Lecturer in Philosophy at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. My responsibilities include coordinating and teaching ‘Human Rights Theory 1 & 2’ which are part of the interdisciplinary Human Rights Programme offered by Monash University. In addition, I have coordinated and taught Level 2 and Level 3 units entitled ‘Democratic Theory’ and ‘Ecology, Poverty and International Justice’ respectively. I have also been teaching Engineering Ethics in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Melbourne on an ongoing basis since 2013.
