The Malaysia Plan is slowly moving towards the green growth for sustainability and resilience to develop a green environment and culture. Few initiatives have been developed, and one of them is with the development of Green Building Index as Malaysia’s green building rating system where the green roof is also the important criteria needed to achieve green status. Hence, the green roof has received significant attention in Malaysia over the years especially in the environmental performance of the system. However, the maintenance management of green roofs is often being neglected and does not being looked in. There are also lack of scientific research regarding the maintenance management practice of green roof in this tropical climate. This research is carried out to assess the green roof maintenance practice in high-rise residential buildings and to analyse the guidelines and codes being applied in other developed countries. The research has been conducted through an extensive reading on the literature from journals and articles. From the literature reviews, there are few successful green roof projects in high-rise residential buildings located in urban cities of Kuala Lumpur, and the current maintenance practice of green roofs is also being analysed. Generally, it can be concluded that maintenance works in high-rise residential buildings are being out-tasked to the related teams in order to maintain the green roof as well as the building in a proper way. A better maintenance management practice will inspire greener roof implementation in this country in future.
