We report the design and characterization of a CMOS pixel direct charge sensor, Topmetal-II-, fabricated in a standard 0.35 μm CMOS Integrated Circuit process. The sensor utilizes exposed metal patches on top of each pixel to directly collect charge. Each pixel contains a low-noise charge-sensitive preamplifier to establish the analog signal and a discriminator with tunable threshold to generate hits. The analog signal from each pixel is accessible through time-shared multiplexing over the entir…Read more
  • Infliximab for intensification of primary therapy for Kawasaki disease: A phase 3 randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial
    with A. H. Tremoulet, S. Jain, P. Jaggi, S. Jimenez-Fernandez, J. M. Pancheri, J. T. Kanegaye, J. P. Kovalchin, B. F. Printz, O. Ramilo, and J. C. Burns
Background Kawasaki disease, the most common cause of acquired heart disease in developed countries, is a self-limited vasculitis that is treated with high doses of intravenous immunoglobulin. Resistance to intravenous immunoglobulin in Kawasaki disease increases the risk of coronary artery aneurysms. We assessed whether the addition of infliximab to standard therapy in acute Kawasaki disease reduces the rate of treatment resistance. Methods We undertook a phase 3, randomised, double-blind, plac…Read more

Lithium/sulfur cells have attracted much attention due to their higher theoretical specific capacity and energy compared to those of current lithium-ion cells. However, the application of Li/S cells is still hampered by short cycle life. Sulfur-graphene oxide nanocomposites have shown promise as cathode materials for long-life Li/S cells because oxygen-containing functional groups on the surface of graphene oxide were successfully used as sulfur immobilizers by forming weak bonds with sulfur and…Read more

  • 18-month trajectories of delusional dimensions in young adults: Relationship with reasoning biases and worry
    with S. H. So, C. Zhu, A. K. C. Chau, C. D. Chiu, R. C. K. Chan, and P. W. L. Leung
    J Psychopathol Clin Sci 132 (2). 2023.
BACKGROUND: It has been argued that what differentiates delusional ideation from full-blown delusions (indicating need for care) is not the number of beliefs, but the experiential dimensions such as conviction, distress, and preoccupation. However, how these dimensions evolve over time and affect outcomes is under-researched. While delusional conviction and distress are associated with reasoning biases and worry respectively in clinical samples, how these processes predict trajectories of delusi…Read more

Zur Philosophie der chinesischen Sprachwelt: Ursprungsdenken, Argumentationsfeld und Methoden
Yearbook for Eastern and Western Philosophy 5 (1): 5-52. 2022.

    Perpetual Thriving: An Existentialist Analysis
Yearbook for Eastern and Western Philosophy 2018 (3): 329-352. 2018.
The relevance of Heidegger’s existentialist analysis of Dasein does not consist in its exhaustive understanding of man’s existential structure but in its suspension of cultural tradition by means of phenomenological reduction in order to show an existentialist aspect of that structure, namely being-toward-death. The Chinese cultural tradition, however, discloses another existentialist feature of man, namely perpetual thriving or shengshengbuxi. We intend to separate the existential experience fr…Read more
