Currently, India-Pakistan relations have often been afflicted by cross-border terrorism, ceasefire violations, territorial disputes, etc. Improving bilateral ties is crucial for both countries, as it would mean stabilizing South Asia and improving the economies of both nations. A strong political will to mend the relationship at the current juncture is direly needed. A constructive approach and confidence-building measures between India and Pakistan can be crucial to improving their ties. About 550 years ago, Guru Nanak preached a special universal message of truthful living, faith, and love [1]. His message was not addressed to a specific ethnic or religious group. It was meant for all humanity. Let us look at Guru Nanak's teachings in building good unneighborly ties between India and Pakistan and see what kind of prescriptions and insights he offers us to face the challenges of contemporary times. When India's environment was full of conflict between Hinduism and Islam, Guru Nanak proclaimed a beautiful universal message for all people, highlighting equality for all without any consideration of caste, colour, creed, gender, or race [2]. He asserted that the same One God creates all, whether we call him Ram, Allah, or any other name. Moreover, he emphasized that "See the Divine Light in all." Therefore, people of faith should recognize the Divine Light in everyone. Sasai so▫e sarisat jin sājī sabẖnā sāhib ek bẖa▫i▫ā. Sassa: He (Divine) who created the world, is the One Lord and Master of all. (M.1, SGGS, p. 432). Iknai bẖāʼnde sāji▫ai ik cẖānaṇ ṯihu lo▫e. The One God has fashioned all beings (the vessels), and His essence pervades everywhere (the three worlds). (M.1, SGGS, p. 62)

Dr. Devinder Singh Sekhon served as a Chemistry/Educational Administration professor at various colleges/Universities in Alberta and British Columbia, Canada. Presently, living in Windsor, Canada, he is actively contributing to the fields of Science, Religion, and Literature. Despite being a noted chemist and educationist, he is interested in sharing his insights about religion and science. Due to this keen dedication to sharing his understanding of Sikhi doctrines with all, he authored seven books on various aspects of the Sikh way of life. In addition, his about three dozen stories and two dozen articles have been published in various newspapers and magazines in India, Canada and the USA. His writings, laced with his rationalistic approach and logical outlook, have been well appreciated by his readers. Presently, he is entirely devoted to preparing an English translation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, the sacred scripture of the Sikhs. In one of my recent meetings with him, I had a chance to learn more about his contributions and insights into Sikhism. A brief write-up of the interview is being shared for the benefit of the readers.

Our universe has over 200 billion galaxies, each containing roughly 100 billion stars. It is still being determined how many planets are orbiting these stars. But at least one of them has undoubtedly evolved life, with the capacity to speculate about the origin of this vast universe. Humans have been looking up into the sky for eons to have a coherent and rational understanding of the Creation. In his compositions [1] of Jap (u), Sidh Gosht, Aasa di Var, Thitee and Maru Sohilé, Guru Nanak has enunciated an excellent understanding of the mystery of Creation. It is fascinating that some of the ideas expressed in these hymns were unknown to modern science until the eighteenth century.

Elisabeth Meru, born in Hamburg, is a poetess by heart, a storyteller by nature, a forwarding merchant / financial accountant by training, and a Sikh by choice. She is currently settled in Munich, Germany. During the past three decades, she has authored numerous short stories, articles, and poetic compositions for various newspapers, journals, and radio broadcasts. With over a dozen books, both in English and German languages, to her credit to date, she is a prolific author who specializes in writing on Sikh history, tradition, and culture. Her 24-year-long spiritual quest brought her to the Gurdwara in Munich, wherein she heard Gurbani Kirtan for the first time. Therein she felt as if she had reached home. After continuous devotion and dedication to Sikhi for about seven years, she converted to Sikhism. Due to her love for Sikhi, Punjabi and Punjabiat, she learned Gurmukhi. Her first book in German, “Aus dem Herzen des Sikhismus - Guru Nanak Dev Ji - In deinem stillen Rosengarten” was published in 2009. The English version of the book "From the Heart of Sikhism - Guru Nanak Dev Ji - In your quiet rose garden" was published in 2010. These books describe the legends about the ten Gurus, their wisdom and teachings, and her poems, fables and a fairytale in German style. Elisabeth’s second set of books “Sikhism - Wellspring of Love” (in English) and “Sikhismus - Quell der Liebe” (in German), were published in 2010. This book contains her poems and stories about Sikhism. The stories are rooted in the spirit of fairy tales. Her next book, in German, “Sikhs und Sikhismus: Religion, Riten und der Goldene Tempel ” was published in 2011. In Feb. 2012,she with her team published the German edition of “Guru Granth Sahib Ji Essenz und Sikh Terminologie von A - Z.” It is a must-book for German-speaking Sikhs and all those who want a quick overview of basic terms in Sikhism. Another of her book, in German, “Sikhs ... der Bart ist ab,” was published in 2017.

Truthful living is a central concept in Sikhism. It highlights the importance of living a life based on truth, honesty, and integrity. According to Sikhism, living a truthful life is essential for spiritual growth and leading a fulfilling and purposeful life. The foundation of truthful living in Sikhism is the concept of ‘Sat,’ which means truth or reality. Sikhism emphasizes the importance of seeking and living in harmony with the ultimate truth, which is believed to be embodied in the teachings of the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of the Sikhs [1]. Truthful living involves aligning one's thoughts, words, and actions with this ultimate truth. Guru Nanak emphasizes the importance of truthful living as: ਸਚਹੁ ਓਰੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਉਪਿਰ ਸਚੁ ਆਚਾਰੁ॥ Sacẖahu orai sabẖ ko upar sacẖ ācẖār. Truth is the highest virtue, but higher still is truthful living. (Mehl 1, SGGS, p. 62)

Dr. Karminder Singh Dhillon is a much-acclaimed theologian, a renowned civil servant, a prolific writer and a profound scholar of comparative religious studies. Born in 1960 at Teluk Anson, Perak, Malaysia, he retired after 32 years long professional career in the Malaysian Civil Service. His incisive articles on Sikh theology have been regularly published in various international journals. Currently serving as Joint Editor for the Sikh Bulletin, USA, he, with his exceptional writing style, has established himself as an eminent exponent of the Sikh doctrines. In addition, he has published about one dozen books on various aspects of Sikhi. Dr. Dhillon’s book 'Understanding Anand' explores the Spirituality of Bliss as outlined in 'Anand,' a composition by Guru Amar Das, the third Sikh Guru, and enshrined in Sri Guru Granth Sahib (SGGS) on pages 917-922, in Ramkali Raag. He emphasizes that Gurbani advocates a spirituality of Fearlessness and Contentment leading to Anand (bliss and Joy). He laments that our clergy is intent on promoting the Spirituality of Fear and the Spirituality of Asking, which is the antithesis of what Gurbani stands for. He enunciates that Gurbani's spiritually brilliant and divinely genius messages lead to Vigaas, the Spirituality of Bliss and Joy (Anand). In 'Foreword' of the book, Gyani Jarnail Singh Arshi points out that the translation methodology adopted by the author makes the messages of Anand hymns free from literal translation trends as well as snatan, vedic and yogic slants. The book includes three 'Introductory Essays,' i.e. (i)The Spirituality of Anand, (ii) The Methodology of This Book, and (iii) How to Read This Book. The book's last section elaborates on the Anand composition.

Guru Nanak was not content to remain a mystic. He undertook [9-11] four long travels, called udasis, to spread his message far and wide and to share his spiritual experiences with others. Bhai Mardana always accompanied the Guru during missionary tours. During the four travels, Guru Nanak visited different religious places. He went to Kurukshetra, Haridwar, Joshi Math, Ratha Sahib, Gorakh Matta (Nanak Matta), Audhya, Prayag, Varanasi, Gaya, Patna, Dhubri and Gauhati in Assam, Dacca, Puri, Cuttock, Rameshwaram, Ceylon, Bidar, Baroach, Somnath, Dwarka, Janagarh, Ujjain, Ajmer, Mathura, Pakpattan, Talwandi, Lahore, Sultanpur, Bilaspur, Rawalsar, Jawalaji, Spiti Vally, Tibet, Ladakh, Kargil, Amarnath, Srinagar and Baramula. Guru Nanak also paid visits to Muslim holy places. He went to Mecca, Medina, Beghdad via Multan, Peshawar Sakhar, Son Miani, Hinglaj etc. Some accounts say that Guru Sahib reached Mecca by sea route. He also visited Syria, Turkey and Tehran (Iran). From Tehran he set out on the caravan route and covered Kabul, Kandhar and Jalalabad. The aim of his tours was to awaken the people, and to realize the truth about God and his creation. He established a network of preaching centres of his philosophy called “Manjis”. He appointed able and committed followers as their in-charges. The basic tenets of Guru Nanak's philosophy were wilfully conceived by people from all walks of life. Thus the seeds of Sikhism were sown all over India and abroad in a well-planned manner. In 1516, Guru Nanak laid the foundation of a city, In the central Punjab, near Pakhoke Randhawa, for wider dissemination of his message. He built a Dharamsala (a place for the religious congregation), established the Holy Fellowship of the people there, and named the city the Abode of the Creator — 'Kartarpur'. But he and Bhai Mardana soon left it for his travel to Mecca in autumn of 1518 A.D. In the year 1520, Babar attacked India. His troops slaughtered thousands of innocent civilians. Women and children were made captives, and all their property was plundered at Eminabad (now in Pakistan). Guru Nanak, who was at Eminabad at that time, challenged this act of barbarity by Babar in strong words. He was arrested and released shortly after, making Babar realize his blunder. All the prisoners were also released. Guru Nanak came back to Kartarpur in 1521 A.D.

A renowned Sikh scholar and internationally recognized expert on Calendrical Science, S. Pal Singh Purewal's outstanding contribution to Sikh history has been the Nanakshahi calendar. In the old Bikrami calendar, some gurpurabs (Sikhs' sacred days for commemorating certain events) came twice a year, and some gurpurabs did not come even once a year. Taking cognizance of these anomalies, Pal Singh Purewal took the initiative to remedy the situation. For nearly fifteen years, he toiled hard to sort out the problem. His endeavor led to the creation of the Nanakshahi calendar. Announcing its release, he opined: "All communities and faiths have their own calendar as a mark of their distinct cultural identity. So, just as the Islamic world has the Hijri calendar and Hindus have the Bikrami calendar, the Sikhs will have a Nanakshahi calendar along with the common era (CE) calendar, which is in use throughout the world."

ਸਾਰੇ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ, ਸਦਭਾਵਨਾ, ਸ਼ਾਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਸ਼ਹਾਲੀ ਵਾਲੀ ਆਦਰਸ਼ ਹਾਲਤ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਹੈ। ਹਿੰਸਾ ਤੋਂ ਮੁਕਤ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਆਦਰਸ਼, ਲੋਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਕੌਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਵੈ-ਇੱਛੁਕ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਯੁੱਧ ਰੋਕਣ ਦਾ ਅਧਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਬੇਸ਼ਕ ਵੱਖੋ ਵੱਖਰੇ ਧਰਮਾਂ, ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰਾਂ, ਫਲਸਫਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਆਦਰਸ਼ ਹਾਲਤ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਬਾਰੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਭਿੰਨ ਭਿੰਨ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਸਾਂਝਾ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਤਾਂ ਇਹੋ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਧਰਤ-ਵਾਸੀ ਸਮੂਹ ਕੌਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੰਗ ਦੇ ਹਾਲਾਤ ਖਤਮ ਹੋਣੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ । ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ, ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਮ ਨਿਰਪੱਖ ਸੰਗਠਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਨਾਲ ਸਥਾਪਿਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ, ਖਾਸ ਕਰ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਸੰਗਠਨ ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਅਤੇ ਜੰਗੀ ਹਾਲਾਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਤਮ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਨੀਤੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬਧਿਤ ਹੋਣ । ਸਾਰੇ ਧਰਮ ਅਮਨ, ਮੇਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਦਾਨ-ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਸੰਭਾਵਨਾਵਾਂ ਸਮੋਈ ਬੈਠੇ ਹਨ। ਸਿੱਖ ਧਰਮ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਇਹੋ ਹੀ ਸੱਚ ਹੈ। ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹੀ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਵਿਅਕਤੀਆਂ, ਫਿਰਕਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਕੌਮਾਂ ਦਰਮਿਆਨ ਸ਼ਾਂਤਮਈ ਸਹਿਹੌਂਦ ਸੰਭਵ ਹੈ ਬਸ਼ਰਤੇ ਕਿ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ, ਨਿਆਂ, ਸਵੈਮਾਣਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਦੇ ਹੱਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਰੰਟੀ ਹੋਵੇ। ਸਿੱਖ ਧਰਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਸਿਧਾਂਤਾਂ ਖਾਸ ਕਰ ਸਤਸੰਗਤ, ਲੰਗਰ, ਪੰਗਤ, ਵੰਡ ਛਕਣਾ, ਕੁਦਰਤ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ, ਸਰਬੱਤ ਦਾ ਭਲਾ, ਸੇਵਾ, ਵਿਸ਼ਵਵਿਆਪੀ ਭਾਈਚਾਰਾ, ਨਿਆਂ, ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਂਝੀਵਾਲਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ, ਸਦਭਾਵਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਸ਼ਹਾਲੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਮਨਚਾਹੇ ਟੀਚੇ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਹਾਰਕ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਦੀ ਪੇਸ਼ਕਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅਜੋਕੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਪੂਰਾ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਹੀ ਸੰਕਟਮਈ ਹਾਲਾਤਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਲੰਘ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਇੱਕੀਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਢਲੇ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ, ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਹੌਂਦ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਵੱਡੇ ਖਤਰੇ ਦਾ ਸਾਹਮਣਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਪੈ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣੀ ਪ੍ਰਦੂਸ਼ਣ ਵਿਚ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਵਾਧਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਾਜ ਵਿਚ ਰਿਸ਼ਵਤ ਖੋਰੀ ਦਾ ਵੱਡੇ ਪੈਮਾਨੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਚਲਣ, ਸਾਡੇ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਮਾਹੌਲ ਨੁੰ ਵੱਡੀ ਢਾਹ ਲਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਮਾਦਕ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਵਧ ਰਹੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਤੇ ਏਡਜ਼ ਵਰਗੀਆਂ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਬੀਮਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡਾ ਖਤਰਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਆਤੰਕਵਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਵਾਧੇ ਅਤੇ ਕੌਮਾਂ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਰਾਜਨੀਤਕ ਦਵੈਸ਼ ਨੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਸੰਕਟ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਅਜਿਹੇ ਸੰਕਟਮਈ ਹਾਲਾਤਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਪਰ ਵਿਨਾਸ਼ ਦੇ ਬੱਦਲ ਮੰਡਰਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਪਰ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਸਿਧਾਂਤ, ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਲਈ ਖ਼ਤਰਾ ਬਣੇ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਹਾਲਾਤਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਰਾਹ ਦਿਖਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਸਮਰਥ ਹਨ। ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ, ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਭਰ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਸ਼ਹਾਲੀ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਲਈ ਸੁਯੋਗ ਰਾਹਨੁਮਾਈ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ, ਇਕ ਵੱਡਮੁੱਲਾ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਸਿਧਾਂਤ ਸਮੂਹ ਮਾਨਵਤਾ ਲਈ ਅਮਲਯੋਗ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਅਜੋਕੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਤੇ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰਥਕਤਾ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ।

An influential philanthropist, prominent peach farmer, strong political influencer, and founder of Sikh institutions and festivals at Yuba City, S. Didar Singh Bains, has been a globally renowned Punjabi-American of California, Washington, D.C., USA. Starting from scratch, but only with his consistent hard work, perseverance and faith, he rose in prominence and stature in every facet of his life. His ability and will to give back and empower others made Didar the embodiment of the American Dream.

Symbolism, as a literary device, is widely employed in the scriptures of almost all religions. Understanding the use of symbolism in a scripture enables us to comprehend and appreciate the intended message of the scripture’s author in a better way. The poetic compositions of Sri Guru Granth Sahib (SGGS) are notable for their richness, and various images and symbols used to tell its authors’ mystical and spiritual experiences. These compositions aptly use natural symbolism to describe humanity’s diverse physical and spiritual needs and suggest innovative ways to tackle these issues. As SGGS’s message is addressed to the ordinary person, the symbolism used to depict various facets and aspirations of human life has been taken from nature and Indian culture. This article reports on the usage of natural symbolism in SGGS.

South Asia, home to one-third of the world population, is a diverse region with distinct conflicts and politico-economic subtleties. It has large sections of an impoverished population due to a lack of adequate health, education, water, sewerage, and transportation facilities. Natural disasters, as well as the lack of access to basic facilities, increase the probability of conflict. Peacebuilding is the practice of developing policies that consolidate peace and restore order through political, economic, and social reforms. Primarily, it depends on the security, economic, and political dynamics of the region where it is being carried out. Therefore, the challenges to peacebuilding in South Asia are immense. State security and peace of several South Asian countries are threatened by non-representative regimes, foreign interventions, internal ethnic conflicts, natural resource disputes, and deteriorating governance structures. So, South Asian countries are more vulnerable to cross-border terrorism and ethnic and sectarian conflicts [1]. Sikh Gurus [2] proclaim that if one considers people of one's community as friends and people of other communities as enemies, one can never attain peace of mind. A feeling of universal fellowship is the foundation for peaceful coexistence in a diverse society.

Humans have been staring up into space for thousands of generations to have a rational and coherent description of the Creation and evolution of the universe. Guru Nanak, the first Sikh Guru, in his hymns of Jap (u), Aasa di Var, Sidh Gosht, Thitee and Maru Sohilé, has enunciated an excellent understanding of the mystery of Creation. It is pertinent to add that he composed his hymns in the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. In contrast, the various scientific ideas discussed in the article became prevalent in the second half of the eighteenth century. From the discussion, it is evident that Guru Nanak's ideas were the precursor of the modern scientific outlook.

Sikhism is the world's fifth-largest religion. It was founded during the late 15th century in the Punjab region of the Indian subcontinent. Its adherents are known as Sikhs. Currently, there are about 30 million Sikhs worldwide. Most of them live in the Indian state of Punjab. As per Sikh tradition, Sikhism was established by Guru Nanak (1469–1539) and subsequently led by a succession of nine other Gurus. Before his death, the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh (1666–1708), bestowed the status of Guru to the sacred scripture of Sikhs, Adi Granth, which is presently known as Sri Guru Granth Sahib (SGGS) [1]. The Adi Granth was first compiled by Guru Arjan Dev, the fifth Sikh Guru, in 1604. Its second and final version has been the handiwork of Guru Gobind Singh, who added the hymns of his father, Guru Teg Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru [2], at Damdama Sahib, Talwandi Sabo, Punjab, in 1705. The holy Sikh scripture, SGGS, contains 1430 pages of text in poetry form. In addition to the hymns of the six Sikh Gurus and four Sikhs, it includes hymns composed by fifteen saints (Bhagats) and eleven poet laureates (Bhats) of the Guru's court. Muslims and Hindus, Brahmins, and "untouchables" all come together in one congregation to create a universal scripture. A renowned Sikh scholar and internationally recognized expert on Calendrical Science, S. Pal Singh Purewal's outstanding contribution to Sikh history has been the Nanakshahi calendar. In the old Bikrami calendar, some gurpurabs (Sikhs' sacred days for commemorating certain events) came twice a year, and some gurpurabs did not come even once a year. Taking cognizance of these anomalies, Pal Singh Purewal took the initiative to remedy the situation. For nearly fifteen years, he toiled hard to sort out the problem. His endeavor led to the creation of the Nanakshahi calendar. Announcing its release, he opined: "All communities and faiths have their own calendar as a mark of their distinct cultural identity. Bhai Vir Singh was born on December 5, 1872, at Amritsar. He was the eldest among his six siblings. His father, Dr. Charan Singh, was a medical practitioner and an illustrious scholar. His grandfather Bhai Kahan Singh was the first in the family to be sworn as a Sikh and was a forerunner of the family's literary and scholarly tradition. Bhai Vir Singh's ancestry includes Diwan Kaura Mal, the vice-governor of Multan. Bhai Vir Singh's maternal grandfather, Giani Hazara Singh, too was a renowned exegete and a man of letters. Scientific methodology is defined as a mode of research in which a problem is identified, relevant data gathered, a hypothesis formulated, and then empirically tested. Autobiographical books of Punjabi Scientists are a rare genre. "My Journey In Science" by internationally acclaimed scientist Professor Hardev Singh Virk is a welcome addition to this category. Prof. Hardev Singh Virk, a multifaceted personality, is an eminent Physicist, an ardent researcher, an eloquent orator, a passionate poet, and a globe trotter. In addition, he is a devout Sikh, a renowned Sikh theologian, and a prolific writer in many areas of Science, Religion, and Literature. On reading “Up Against Odds”, the autobiography of Piara Singh Gill, a world-famous Physicist, Professor Virk was motivated to write his autobiography “Mera Jeevan Safar” in Punjabi. Later, the book was transliterated in Shahmukhi and published as an e-book by the Academy of Punjab in North America. In addition, for the benefit of young people, who are born and brought up in the West, and are not well versed in the Punjabi language, Professor Virk took the arduous task of publishing his autobiography in English. His autobiography titled "My Journey In Science" with a sub-title: "Autobiography of an Indian Scientist" contains a lot more detail about his scientific endeavors, as compared to its Punjabi version. The purpose of "My Journey In Science" is to inspire the younger generation to pursue their chosen fields of study, with full dedication against all odds. This ensues from the fact that he has dedicated it to his grandchildren, who inspired him to write this book. Additionally, the author uses the forum to express his extreme gratitude to all the mothers, the teachers, and the seekers of Truth, who inspired him in his life journey, by dedicating it to them as well.

Guru Nanak, one of the saints of the medieval period of Indian history, occupies a unique place among the spiritual leaders, preceptors, reformers, and saints of India. His teachings have universal appeal and are good for all ages. The impact of his teachings on Indian society has been incredible. He traveled far and wide to dispense his message of love, peace, devotion to God, social justice, religious toleration, and universal brotherhood. He was a great thinker, a wonderful mystic, and a distinguished social reformer. He was a revolutionary prophet, a litterateur of high caliber, and a person of extraordinary foresight and scientific attitude. Religion and Science represent two great systems of human thought. Both of these seek objective perceptions in their attempts to comprehend existence and reality. The fundamental distinction lies in the direction in which they look in pursuit of their aims. In both cases, a subtle interplay between theory and observation is involved. Both approaches are intellectual as well as empirical. Professor Hardev Singh Virk’s book titled ‘Scientific Vision in Sri Guru Granth Sahib and Interfaith Dialogue’ offers an exciting bridge between religious studies and natural sciences. He has made a splendid in-depth study of Sikhism and its relationship with science. The book contains 12 Chapters. In the Prologue, the author traces a brief history of the kindling of his interest in Cosmology. Then he articulates the purpose of the book to show glimpses of Scientific Vision in Sri Guru Granth Sahib (SGGS) by interpreting its text in the light of scientific theories. Prof. Virk stresses that Interfaith dialogue is the need of the hour for the promotion of world peace. He points out that the twenty-first century will be a witness to two types of dialogues for the promotion of world peace and harmony: (i) ScienceReligion dialogue, and (ii) inter-faith dialogue. The author has a strong faith and conviction that SGGS has the potential to play a leading role in both these dialogues.
