An unresolved and vital concern in the realm of environmental ethics is the moral accountability of humans towards nature. In this pursuit, we attempt to uncover insights from discussions related to postmodernism and decolonization that can facilitate the establishment of a transcultural environmental discourse within ethical deliberations. The primary objective is to embark on a quest for an ethical framework that harmoniously aligns human culture with the natural world and informs co-inhabitation. While exploring the moral implications of human integration within the ‘oikos,’ we aim to contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of human-nature interconnectedness. In the first section, we analyze Ricardo Rozzi’s interpretation of ‘bioculturalism,’ examining its theoretical underpinnings, core principles, structure, and implications for understanding nature-culture reciprocity. In the second section we expand the intercultural dialogue to explore the role of transcultural dialogue within bioculturalism. We evaluate the significance of transcultural bioculturalism for sustainable relationships between humans and the environment, i.e. nature-culture diversity.

Eco–spiritualism is not a new idea; in fact, it has a long history in the Vedic tradition. ‘Vasudhaiva Kuṭumbakam’ in the mantra of Mahā–Upaniṣad of the Sāmaveda tradition presents us with a thought–provoking message, namely, that every being or entity on this earth is one family [अयं बन्धुरयं नेति गणना लघुचेतसाम् ।उदारचरितानां तु वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम् ॥७१॥]. In the Vedic civilization the realm of ethical thinking was extensive. The Vedic science of ecology addresses eco–spiritualism from the perspective of the cosmological and the ontological unity of nature. However, the ethics of natural laws, such as ṛta, satya and dharma, plays a very vital role in the human being’s environmental actions. Firstly, this paper intends to trace and identify the ecological divinity of the Vedas. Secondly, the paper shall endeavour to apply and evaluate ancient scriptures and their understanding of the environment in terms of its intrinsic value and its relation to human beings. We conclude with the discussion on the problems of eco–spiritualism in the contemporary world.

The conception of embodiment addresses relationships between knowledge, the mind, and the physical environment. The embodiment is the experience of becoming conscious of what the soma is as a whole. The stance of eco-somatic embodied sustainability places the unfolding of this venture in the perceptual interaction and relation between the human body and nature. The environment at the intersection of human and non-human nature highlights the necessity and importance of acknowledging nature’s participation in constructing sustainability knowledge. Postmodern environmental philosophers propose narratives as a central element in producing environmental/ethical knowledge while defining the relationship between place, values, and sustainability. This paper will address a shift from the modern notion of environmental philosophy to postmodern environmental sustainability – the exposition of narratives, ideography, and metaphysical account of place for moving towards contextualising environmental epistemology. Environmental epistemology, metaphysics, and ethics are allied to establishing a dynamic relationship between soma, nature, and culture by developing embodied ecosystem sustainability. We cannot escape nature and its relation to us as we are embedded, situated, and interacting with the environment. However, the notion of an embodiment of nature and humans through contextualising epistemology with relational self, place, and ethics enacted becomes substantiated.
