Alex Voorhoeve

I am a Professor in the Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method and Vice President (and Pro-Vice Chancellor) of Faculty Development at the LSE. I studied economics and philosophy at Erasmus University, Cambridge University, and UCL. I joined the LSE in 2004 and have worked here ever since, though I have held visiting positions at Harvard (2008-09), Princeton (2012-13), the National Institutes of Health, U.S. (2016-17), Erasmus University Rotterdam (2017-21), and Nuffield College, Oxford (2024-25). I work on the theory and practice of distributive and procedural justice (especially as it relates to health), on rational choice theory, moral psychology, and Epicureanism. I have acted as a consultant on justice in health to the WHO, the World Bank, and the Norwegian Institute of Public Health and served on the Academic Advisory Board of the Bank of England and HM Treasury on the development of a Digital Pound.
