I got my physics doctorate in Heisenberg’s institute in Goettingen, then changed fields to molecular and developmental biology, accompanied by a strong interest in philosophical aspects of the life sciences, including human empathy and the brain-mind relation. Reasons are given for fundamental limitations of a scientific explanation of human consciousness. The body of scientific insights is consistent with more than one interpretation on the “meta-theoretical“, that is, on the philosophical and cultural level. These include agnostic views as well as enlightened forms of pro-religious ideas.
