Alicja Pietras

Alicja Pietras is an Assistant Professor in the Institute of Philosophy, at the University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland. She is a graduate in philosophy and sociology. Her research has been on the history of German transcendental philosophy (especially Kant, Hegel, neo-Kantianism, Nicolai Hartmann, Martin Heidegger, Karl Jaspers, Hannah Arendt, Hans Wagner), the ontology of spiritual being and the philosophical foundations of the social and cognitive sciences (sociology, cognitive and developmental psychology). She is the author of a book on Nicolai Hartmann’s and Martin Heidegger’s projects of ontologies. She is currently working on social ontology, especially on the concepts of reflection, self, will, values, meaning and action both historically (in German transcendental philosophy) and systematically (in relation with empirical researches). She is vice-president of the Nicolai Hartmann Society.
