Compared to other European countries, anti-gender campaigns and protests have been subdued and mostly centered on targeting transgender recognition and rights. Antifeminist mobilizations by men’s rights activists have, in comparison, been more organized and structured in response to the rise of the #MeToo movement, particularly due to the establishment of the Danish Men’s Council in 2018. The three main reaction types to such mobilizations that have been identified are critique, issue reappropriation, and disengagement. Feminist and LGBT+ actors often resort to a combination of these reaction types without a deliberate strategy. What most resembles a strategy applied by the most influential women’s and LGBT+ organizations is disengagement, for instance, by not debating antifeminist and anti-gender actors publicly. It is currently uncertain what the effects of this strategy are.
