I am Professor of Philosophy and Co-Director of the Cognitive Science Program at Marist University in Poughkeepsie, New York. Most of my publications are directly or indirectly related to some aspect of the nature of mind and agency. Currently, my research is focused on issues related to the ontological foundations of the philosophy of mind and agency, working out the implications of an ontology of causal powers for how we think about human agency, mental causation, and phenomenal consciousness. I have also been working with Brian Glenney on a project on the role of skills in visual perception, defending a modest version of 4E cognition, by examining the phenomenon of the skater's eye. My work in the philosophy of religion has been focused on developing a coherent naturalistic alternative conception of God that is best described as a variant of pantheism. Finally, I have projects on moral cognition (focusing on reactive attitudes and blame judgments), the metaphysics of ethnicity (focusing on Latinx identity), and the metaphysics of causation that I play around with from time to time.
