Este artículo examina el carácter dinámico de la concepción plotiniana de la realidad a partir de la apropiación particular del filósofo de la identidad de las nociones de “ser”, “vivir” y “pensar”. En particular, se defiende que esta propuesta se caracteriza tanto por su adopción de motivos clásicos (sobre todo de la epistemología aristotélica) como por la extensión de la estructura triádica del Intelecto a la realidad como un todo. Esta extensión permitirá a Plotino tanto mostrar la continuidad entre los distintos niveles de la realidad (por la procedencia de la vida en general de la Vida del Intelecto) como dar cuenta de la necesidad y posibilidad de que el alma humana ascienda al Intelecto. De esta manera, se muestra cómo la estructura dinámica del Intelecto determina los momentos contemplativo, autoconstitutivo y creativo de cada una de las hipóstasis del sistema de Plotino.

This chapter seeks to discuss the directions in which engineering should evolve, with emphasis on the case of South America, in two dimensions. The first, at the national level, refers to the choices made by these countries in terms of developing national engineering capability. We maintain that these choices must prioritize, under all circumstances, the minimization of social and human inequality. And the second, at the individual level, is the training of engineers, who are currently eminently concerned with the technical aspects of design solutions. We believe this training leaves out what, in our view, is perhaps the most important part of the civilizing process today: the human question. For this purpose, the following will be discussed: (1) Engineering challenges in the Global South; (2) an analysis of economic and political aspects of Engineering in Latin America; and (3) Engineering from an epistemological, ethical, social and human perspective. This chapter is an argument to recover what we take as the essence of the engineer’s work: having a broad view of the field of possibilities, in order to make a comprehensive reading of a given situation and, from that, formulate a problem to be solved, through a project solution in which the technical, the human and the social variables can be reconciled. We argue that current engineers’ work in Latin America is far from embodying this essence and thus we discuss how education can play a privileged role in approaching a future generation of engineers to this ideal.

Since ancient Greece, the importance of dialogue is well established in philosophy. Plato’s works show dialogue as a means to engage across disciplinary boundaries, reflect on experience and gain new insight. In their exchange, the participants learn from one another without necessarily reaching agreements or annihilating differences and conflicts. Since the turn of the century, philosophers of technology have shown an increasing interest in a dialogue with practitioners. During the last decade, the forum for Philosophy, Engineering and Technology (fPET) has provided an important platform for such a dialogue. In 2020, this platform was challenged by the outbreak of the Covid 19 pandemic, which made it impossible to attend conferences in person. With the shift to an online format, fPET2020 was nevertheless able to continue the tradition of previous events. Furthermore, the online format made it possible to include voices in the dialogue that had so far not been heard, resulting in a broader and geographically and culturally richer interaction. This volume assembles selected works presented at fPET2020 or inspired by the networking activities that took place there.

This book gives insight into the ongoing work of the forum on Philosophy, Engineering and Technology (fPET), which brings together philosophers and engineers from all over the world to discuss philosophical issues of engineering across disciplinary boundaries. Drawing on presentations and conversations at the fPET 2020 online conference hosted by the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María in Chile, the chapters establish connections and describe discoveries that have so far been neglected in the discussions held within the young discipline of philosophy of engineering. This volume appeals to students and researchers in the field, through twenty-four proposals brought forward by leading scholars and emerging voices. Pertinent themes covered are: the broader engagement of engineers in problem-solving beyond the scope of their own profession the exploration of new goals for technology development and the implementation of strategies to reach these goals the need for philosophical content and unique pedagogical approaches to engineering education, digital transformations, artificial intelligence and the ethics of online collaboration in social media critical revisions of fundamental terminology and theoretical modelling of key concepts in engineering design, ethics, innovation and the anthropology of technology.

Resumen En este artículo se examina el papel de la enseñanza de la filosofía de la educación en la formación inicial docente, tomando como punto de partida la tensión que es posible notar entre, por un lado, el discurso de la mayoría de las facultades encargadas de preparar profesores, que rescatan la necesidad de formar docentes críticos y reflexivos, y, por otro lado, la praxis de la formación docente que parece tener un acento marcadamente técnico. Ante este escenario, se argumenta para mostrar que la filosofía de la educación sí resulta atingente en el contexto de la formación inicial docente, que lejos de desempeñar una función meramente complementaria en dicha formación, ésta debe cumplir un papel fundamental y, por tanto, articulador de los diversos saberes y competencias propios de un profesor, y que de nada sirve defender el valor fundamental de la filosofía de la educación, si éste no es comprendido como tal por los futuros profesores, por lo que resulta vital pensar cuidadosamente los contenidos, metodologías y momentos adecuados para impartir esta materia.This paper examines the role of the teaching of the philosophy of education in the initial teacher training, taking as a starting point the tension that can be noted between, on the one hand, the discourse of most of the faculties in charge to prepare teachers, who rescue the need to train critical and reflective teachers, and, on the other hand, the praxis of teacher training that seems to have a markedly technical accent. Given this scenario, it is argued to show that the philosophy of education is relevant in the context of initial teacher training, far from playing a purely complementary role in such training, it must play a fundamental role that lets it organize the diverse knowledge and competences of a teacher, and that it is useless to defend the fundamental value of the philosophy of education, if it is not understood as such by prospective teachers, so that it is crucial to think carefully about the contents, methodologies and appropriate moments to impart this subject.

Con el fin de mostrar la importancia de la consideración de la "verdad práctica" como un concepto clave a la hora de dar cuenta de la teoría aristotélica de la acción, se procederá a dilucidar el sentido y alcance de este concepto mediante un análisis de la conexión estructural existente entre la parte racional e irracional del alma (razón y deseo) en la psicología moral de Aristóteles. Luego se pasará a examinar el breve pasaje de Ética Nicomaquea VI 2, en el que Aristóteles señala los requerimientos para que se dé la "verdad práctica", lo cual quedará mucho más claro si se lo revisa a la luz del análisis de la estructura formal de la acción que Aristóteles elabora en el llamado "silogismo práctico". En este artículo se abordará principalmente el problema del sentido de la sintética declaración de Aristóteles de que, para que haya "verdad práctica", "el lógos debe ser verdadero". Esto se encuentra vinculado al problema del papel de la prudencia para determinar los medios conducentes al fin de la acción, pero también para establecer su fin mismo

Si los historiadores de la filosofía tienen razón al calificar a Plotino como el representante más importante del neo-platonismo, cabe preguntarse cuál es el elemento nuevo que él propone al reformular la filosofía de Platón. Para responder a esta pregunta, me centraré en la reformulación plotiniana de la llamada ‘teoría de las Ideas’, pilar fundamental de la gnoseología platónica. Se verá que Plotino, lejos de simplemente repetir los argumentos de Platón, hace propias diversas doctrinas filosóficas que se desarrollaron durante los seis siglos que lo separan de aquél, lo que le permite, por un lado, sortear las objeciones que se habían planteado en contra de las intuiciones platónicas y, por otro, contar con un andamiaje conceptual mucho más preciso para fundamentar el pensamiento de Platón. Es especialmente importante a este respecto el uso que hace Plotino de la doctrina aristotélica del Intelecto , desarrollada en Metafísica XII y ampliamente comentada en los siglos posteriores al Estagirita. Mi reflexión sobre la mediación aristotélica en la exégesis plotiniana de la gnoseología platónica apunta a mostrar que algunos de los puntos más débiles de la ‘teoría de las Ideas’ de Platón son reforzados por Plotino aprovechando doctrinas aristotélicas, aun cuando el Estagirita había tomado distancia de la gnoseología de Platón en algunos de sus puntos más importantes. Intentaré mostrar, pues, que algunas de las tesis más audaces de Plotino –como que “el Intelecto es todo” o la reducción del conocimiento al auto-conocimiento– son fruto de ‘llevar al extremo’ ciertas intuiciones aristotélicas en su afán por refundamentar el pensamiento de Platón
