This article delves into the fascinating journey of early modern emeralds, tracing back their mystified provenance to the tropical Andes in the New Kingdom of Granada during the 16th and 17th centuries, and analyzing the reaction and attitudes towards such provenance in their global trade. It sheds light on the transformation, meanings, and itineraries of New World emerald matter across different regimes of value and transaction—from their oriental reception in Moghul and Safavid territories, to the Spanish Habsburgs' European and Atlantic network of mineral taste, to the Spanish quest to control the emerald mines among the Muisca and Muzo Amerindian people. Through an analysis of historical records and emerald objects extracted and fabricated within a colonial context, this article uncovers the epistemic contents and the cultural entanglements of the green stones.

Inspired by studies about the history and anthropology of knowledge, this text addresses the question of how places are constitutive of the process of argumentation. The argument from place that is presented in classical rhetoric handbooks, particularly in Quintilian, is used as a model of analysis in order to emphasise the situated character of argumentative processes. Both the attention to the place from which an argument is uttered and to the place to which the argument refers are useful guides that help us understand the phenomenon of relevance and keep expanding the contextual and situated approach to argumentation theory and rhetoric.

A continuación, se ofrece un comentario y una edición de la memoria sobre la emigración de Pedro Alcántara Herrán, de acuerdo con cuatro ejes: el contexto en que fue escrita, los debates sobre la migración adelantados entonces en la Nueva Granada, la promoción de la república ideada por Herrán para dirigir hacia ella a colonos norteamericanos o europeos recién llegados a los Estados Unidos y, por último, los presupuestos científicos -etnológicos y geográficos que se pueden distinguir en su propuesta.

El texto pretende seguir las palabras de Martin Heidegger en aquellos momentos en los que habla de lo que significa pensar para nuestra existencia. De esa manera, se presenta aquí una interpretación que hace énfasis en una experiencia del pensar alejada notablemente de las estrategias de la ciencia técnica, de sus reducciones positivas del mundo, y de las cómodas aventuras enciclopédicas de las academias; se muestra el pensar, en cambio, como un saber práctico que se mantiene atento a la difícil experiencia de la existencia en marcha, abierta en el   tiempo, manifiesta en su ausencia originaria
