Andrew Santana Kaplan is an Assistant Professor of African American Literature. Their first book project, Afropessimysticism: Toward a Black Messianic Po/ethics of Apocalypse, theorizes the way 21st-century Black radical thinkers like Dionne Brand, Saidiya Hartman, and Frank Wilderson develop aporetic modes of reading and writing that paradoxically cultivate conditions of im/possibility for the Human’s self-abolition.
