Andrew Santana Kaplan is an Assistant Professor of African American Literature. Their book project, To Abolish the Things that Are: Toward a Black Messianic Poetics of Apocalypse, theorizes the ways thinkers such as W. E. B. Du Bois, Nella Larsen Richard Wright, Dionne Brand, Saidiya Hartman, and Frank Wilderson write in a "Black messianic" mode that potentiates non-Black readers' attunement to--and apocalyptic antagonism toward--the politico-theological caesura of "the Veil."
