with Ivan Nenchev, Tatjana Scheffler, Lisa Raithel, Elif Kara, Maren Rabe, Philip Stötzner, and Christiane Montag
Association for Computational Linguistics Anthology: Proceedings of the 4Th Workshop on Nlp for Positive Impact (Nlp4Pi). 2025.
We present a study investigating the linguistic sentiment associated with schizophrenia and depression in research-based texts. To this end, we constructed a corpus of over 260,000 PubMed abstracts published between 1975 and 2025, covering both disorders. For sentiment analysis, we fine-tuned two sentence-transformer models using SetFit with a training dataset consisting of sentences rated for valence by psychiatrists and clinical psychologists. Our analysis identifies significant temporal trend…Read more

Linguistic Markers of Schizophrenia: A Case Study of Robert Walser
with Ivan Nenchev, Tatjana Scheffler, Heiner Stuke, Sandra Anna Just, and Christiane Montag
Association for Computational Linguistics Anthology: Proceedings of the 9Th Workshop on Computational Linguistics and Clinical Psychology (Clpsych 2024). 2024.
We present a study of the linguistic output of the German-speaking writer Robert Walser using Natural Language Processing (NLP). We curated a corpus comprising texts written by Walser during periods of sound health, and writings from the year before his hospitalization, and writings from the first year of his stay in a psychiatric clinic, all likely attributed to schizophrenia. Within this corpus, we identified and analyzed a total of 20 linguistic markers encompassing established metrics for le…Read more

While the general metaphysical theory adopted in the Elements resembles that of Aristotle in many respec…Read more

Can the Pyrrhonian Sceptic Suspend Belief Regarding Scientific Definitions?
    History of Philosophy & Logical Analysis 23 (1): 253-288. 2020.

Sceptics can suspend belief regarding a dogmatic proposition only by setting up opposing arguments for and against that proposition. Since Sextus provides arguments exclusively against particular geometrical definitions in Adversus Mathematicos III, commentators have argued that Sextus’ method is not scepticism, but negative dogmatism. However, commentators have overlooked the fa…Read more
