After 20 years of service, I retired from the U.S. Army and attended college full-time accumulating three Associate’s Degrees (Arts, Science, and General Studies); a Bachelors of Science in Philosophy with a minor in Political Science; and, a Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation Counseling (with a focus on Mental Health Counseling).
In school, I delved into many fields that may not be explicitly evident from my profile. From analyzing policy to encountering phenomena -- as it really is -- and investigating the various approaches of counseling and psychotherapy, my educational experience is purposely diversified. I am just as comfortable explaining the systematic and critical approaches to designing public policy, as I am justifying the analytical-synthetic distinction of propositions in a conceptual content; viz., "nothing exists outside the text". Further, I have found my true passion to be in the field of counseling and psychotherapy.
I have had some tremendous opportunities serving as an intern and a practicum counselor in a wide variety of settings. From Vocational Rehabilitation, at the State and Federal level, to counseling at Free Clinics, these experiences have solidified my passion for the field.
Currently, I am a mental health therapist, working as a member of the Vulnerable Adult Programs Team, within the Yamhill County Health and Human Services department.
When I am not working, I treasure a good book. I enjoy reading and critically thinking about what I am reading then writing about it. I am a self-directed learner that is genuinely interested in learning new things and acquiring more knowledge; I have a "hungry brain".
