Brian Guarino

Brian Guarino is an independent researcher and the founder of Guarino Industries LLC. His work applies dimensional analysis and the discipline of treating problems quantitatively across several domains, from operations research and propulsion to the philosophy of mind. His philosophical project is a dimensional and coupling framework for consciousness: it treats the felt intensity of experience as a genuine magnitude that needs its own base dimension, bridged to physical quantities by a fixed coefficient, and it locates the level of consciousness in a system-level coupling term. He uses the framework both to reframe long-standing puzzles and to draw out claims that can be tested: whether the question "is consciousness faster than light?" is even well-formed, what the limits of hallucinatory experience reveal about how the brain constructs rather than receives qualia, how subjective time is built rather than given, and what the account predicts about the way felt intensity should change with the depth of anesthesia. He is the author of the Threshold Hypothesis, a dimensional diagnosis of the explanatory gap, and related papers on consciousness and perception.
