C. E. Emmer earned a PhD in philosophy at Stony Brook University (New York) after extensive studies in Germany as a fellow of the Collegium Philosophiae Transatlanticum. His research concentrates on aesthetics, particularly the question of "kitsch" and issues surrounding Immanuel Kant's theories of the beautiful, the sublime, and art.
