I am a third-year PhD student at the University of Glasgow. My thesis defends an agentive account of suffering to support the conclusion that the scope of ethical consideration extends far beyond humans to other biological (nonhuman animals and plants) and artificially intelligent agents. By expanding our understanding of suffering, my project aims to emphasise the ethical significance of beings that are often overlooked in the literature. This shift in perspective aims to contribute to the development of a more inclusive ethical framework, which actively acknowledges and addresses the suffering of a diverse range of agents.
