    Paolo Grossi investigó el derecho medieval y la novedad que supone el derecho moderno. Al analizar los aspectos más relevantes de este último, Grossi puso de relieve cómo la vinculación entre poder y orden jurídico ha despojado el derecho de su vitalidad primigenia, convirtiéndolo en una mera expresión de la voluntad del soberano. En el siglo XX, Grossi señala la oportunidad de quitar el derecho de las manos del poder.
